INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Sandra Bunino

In my interwebs travels, I’ve met some great people. Among them is Sandra Bunino. She’s so sweet and incredibly talented! She writes contemporary romance, and she’s currently got four novellas out as well as a story in the anthology Keyboards and Kink that has inspired a brand new series that Sandra’s working on, starting with Mia’s Submission!!

In addition to her own amazing work, she’s so supportive of other authors. She’s the one who nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger award (*bashful* TY again btw) and she’s always helping promote others in the many groups she’s a member of. I’m really excited to share more about her in the interview below. She’s also super generous and has sponsored a giveaway of any one of her ebooks. Keep reading for more info on that!

Have you always wanted to be an author? Do you write full time?
Hey Buffy! Thanks for having me!

Have I always wanted to be an author? Actually…no. I think I wanted to be everything but an author! My first career aspiration (I think I was about 10) was a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader, after that it was a singer. Those didn’t pan out very well. ;-) In high school I was convinced architecture was for me. Then, I was an Education major in college and thought wanted to be a teacher. That is until I student taught and realized kids were pretty obnoxious. Just kidding – not really. I ended up graduating with an Accounting degree and worked in that field for many years until I seriously wanted to poke my eyes out with a mechanical pencil. Right now I have a pretty sweet job in Human Resources. Which answers the second question, I do have the proverbial “Evil Day Job”, but it’s not so evil, I kind of like mine.

All of your characters feel so authentic and real. What inspires them? Pieces of yourself, people you know, or do they just come to you?
With the exception of Sara’s Smile, the seeds of my stories began with my heroes. I had a young George Clooney (love him!) in my head while writing Jason Royce from Marooned in Miami and Lusted in Las Vegas. The Satin Rose Experience’s Asher Cane is loosely based on Patrick Dempsey. Sara definitely has pieces of me in her character. I spent summers in Martha’s Vineyard as a teenager and yeah, I met a boy there.

Do you plan your stories or write as they develop in your head?
I’m a tried and true pantster! Ideas develop and bloom as I write. Sometimes I’m shocked with the ending! I’m working on becoming a better planner since I have to keep track of characters, settings and plotlines with my new series, The Satin Rose Experience.

The Satin Rose Experience (the short story in Keyboards and Kink) has sparked a new series from you. Can you share more about that?
I’m SO excited about this series! The Satin Rose Experience (SRE) is an exclusive BDSM club residing on the twentieth floor of posh Rosebud Resorts’ flagship location in New York City. Each book is based on a uniquely themed suite at the club.

The series was spun off of my short story in Evernight Publishing’s Keyboards and Kink anthology. Book one, Mia’s Submission was just released last month. It’s a continuation of Asher Cane and Mia Lavender’s story, however it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone book. I’m currently writing the next four books in the series.

Readers won’t find hardcore BDSM in the SRE series. They will find smoking hot scenes focusing on the give and take of sexual control through consensual erotic bondage. My stories are what I like to refer to as “BDSM lite” and explore the sexy love and trust aspect of the D/s dynamic.

Are there any other works on the horizon for you?
Other than the SRE series, I’m working on a holiday story about an Olympic skier hopeful heroine. I also have another “destination” book in the works entitled Captured in Cozumel. The hero is a sexy modern day pirate (yum!).

I should also mention my short story in author Tiffany Reisz’s Felt Tips charity anthology releasing on December 12, 2012! It’s a 40+ author anthology of erotic short stories focusing on office supplies. Yes, you read that correctly, office supplies! My story, The Fountain Pen, shows how a company’s CEO gets creative with the company’s ‘hands-off’ policy. ;-)

So how do you write? Do you crank up some tunes? Do you sit down with a cup of coffee or tea (or maybe a most relaxing drink) as you settle in for a writing session?
While I find great storyline inspiration from songs, I don’t write while listening to music. It’s just too distracting. I love writing at a favorite corner table in my local Starbucks while sipping a non-fat latte.

What do you think is the most important piece of advice for aspiring authors?
Write what you love. Readers are smart, they know whether the author is passionate or not. They won’t buy into a story where the author is not 100% committed. Bring everything to your current WIP. Don’t leave anything on the table for your next book. Give the reader the experience she deserves. After all, she invested money and time in you. So make sure your book is worth her while. If you can do that, you’ll have a reader for life. And guess what? She’ll tell her friends.

I imagine that any writer is obviously a fan of books and therefore reads a lot. What kinds of things do you like to read in your spare time?
I love to read! I’m sure it’s no surprise that I primarily read erotic romance. I’m a fan of novella length contemporaries. You’ll find quite a few “BDSM lite” books on my TBR list.

Is there anything else you feel like sharing?
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my current and future work with you and your followers. I love to hear from readers and aspiring authors! My virtual door is always open. :-)

Sandra Bunino began a love of romance stories while penning a creative writing assignment in high school. The story ended with the heroine receiving a long stem red rose in her locker on Valentine’s Day. Since then, all of her stories feature the hero presenting the heroine with roses. Sandra is constantly searching for different ways to achieve a heart-pumping, stomach-flipping, breath-catching reaction from her readers.

These days, Sandra lives on a wooded mountaintop not far from New York City with her family. Find her here. You can also find her on Facebook and Twitter.

Mia's Submission Now Available!

Hardworking Mia Lavender's been offered a promotion she can’t refuse--VP of Client Experience at New York’s exclusive BDSM club, The Satin Rose Experience, or SRE. Mia's kept her submissive tendencies a secret, until now. She'll have ample opportunity to explore her fantasy because to succeed in her new role at SRE, she will need on-the-job training at the hands of Asher Cane.

During Asher Cane's very first training session with Mia, he fails to follow his own rules and has the hottest vanilla sex of his life. Mia needs training, and Asher is damned if he'll allow another Dom to touch her. Can Asher be the dispassionate trainer Mia needs to learn the exquisite give and take of dominance and submission? Or will her submission come only at the cost of his heart?

Mia’s Submission is Book One of The Satin Rose Experience (SRE) series.

SRE, New York’s elite BDSM club residing on the twentieth floor of Rosebud Resorts, contains ten uniquely themed suites, each with its own story to tell. Find the introduction of SRE in The Satin Rose Experience, a short story in Evernight Publishing’s Keyboards and Kink Anthology.
