Thoughts:First of all, let me just say that the author is mean, and here is what I mean by that: I’m a big sap, so I spent a LARGE portion of this book in tears!! I love, love, love this series and all its characters, so to see Morgan and Joe in such emotional turmoil tore me up. Then later to see the victim of the accident and everybody around him so …

Title:  The Chief of All Time
Series:  Medicine Man
Book #: 1
Author:  SR Howen
Approximate Book Length:  300 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Moderate

Thoughts:This was a unique story for me. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did it was weird, creepy, interesting, and compelling. It was confusing at times, but only because the main character was confused too as to what was real and what wasn’t.

Morning Dove presented a great complexity as you waver between thinking she’s a source of danger and a romantic pote…

BLOG TOUR: Dancing in Circles by Victoria Adams

Image
Thanks to Victoria Adams for being here today!. For your entertainment, please enjoy an interview with her and learn more about her and her book, Dancing in Cirlces.
*****************************
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Victoria Adams. I live in Ontario, Canada with my husband. Our daughter has grown up (overnight) and is out in the adult world.

I write contemporary romance and new adult (17 to 22).

How did you decide to enter the world of writing?
Several years ago, two former students of mine said there was nothing for them to read. Pre-Twilight. So I wrote a book for them, which turned into a trilogy.

What does your family think of your writing?
Some like it – some think it's pretty cool – some don't know and some have scolded me because the F word is used. (I just couldn't see a gang member saying, "Golly gee, I'm angry.")

Where do you get your ideas?
I don't know – somewhere deep in my brain where my creativity lives.

Can you tel…

Queerer Than You Can Imagine
Wanna hear a funny ... well, if not funny then at least odd ... story? In a previous installment you heard of my journey from amateur to professional writer. Pornographic (mostly), but a professional writer nonetheless.

Since I published by first story in 1993 I've been – to put it mildly – writing up a storm. I'm not going to inflict my entire bio on you (that's at the bottom of this piece as well as on my site at www.mchristian.com) but let's just say that I've written quite a few stories – that have been collected into quite a few collections – as well as more than a few novels.

Onto the funny: quite a few of those stories, more than a few of the collectio…

BLOG TOUR: Hunger Embraced by Jennifer James

Image
Welcome back to my good friend Jennifer James. We're celebrating the release of her muchc anticipated release of Hunger Embraced, the first in an Urban Fantasy series! She's here today to talk about what it's like being a writer and offering up some tips and advice she's learned so far!
*****************************
So you want to be a writer. Are you crazy?
Thanks so much to Buffy for having me on her blog today. I’ve been her guest a few times, and I’m always honored to be here. She’s a great gal and an aspiring author herself. So I thought I’d talk a little about what it takes to be a writer. I’m new to the biz myself, I haven’t been at this for even a year. But I can share some of the tips and tricks I’ve learned with anyone out there who wants to take the publishing world by storm.

1) Stock up on alcohol and coffee. Not only are you going to go through crazy lows and highs—“ZOMG I got a contract!” and “They hate my book, it’s never going to sell. *cry*” and “Wo…

REVIEW: Devon's Pair by Jayne Rylon

Image
Recap:James has watched, and participated, as each member of the crew has found love until only he and his life partner, Neil, remain. When he sees his lover ogling the crew’s new apprentice, he’s certain he’s doomed to lose him. He wants the love of his life to be happy, so he’s resigned to walking away if and when he has to, but sparks fly between all three of them unexpectedly. Is it possible that he won’t have to surrender? Just maybe they can build a life together, along with the rest of the crew.
Title:  Devon's Pair
Series:  Powertools
Book #: 4
Author:  Jayne Rylon
Approximate Book Length:  85 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Explicit

Thoughts:Here we have a ménage within a ménage story. Yeah there’s the group fun, but there are also three focal characters as opposed to two. Neil and James have always been the only two of the crew who were a couple already, but when the tomboy, Devon, enters the picture, they’re a little thrown. James is so understa…

If you could change places with any of your characters for a day, who would it be and why?
I had a hard time with this question. I read it and had to walk away for a few days. Truthfully, I wouldn’t want to switch places with any of them. I don’t like complications and their lives are full of danger, scary moments, and events that really try everything they believe in. But that wasn’t the question, so I forced myself to pick.

If I could switch places with one of my characters, it would be James Kleon, simply because I would love to have telekinesis. Just think how much I could get done without ever lifting a finger. I would sit at my computer and type with my mind, oh what a dream come true that would be.

To be able to clean the house while sitting on my couch watching a movie or lift myself up w…

BLOG TOUR: A Purrfect Match by Chris T Kat

Image
Thanks to Bewitching Book Tours for hosting this blog tour. What's in a name? Referencing A Purrfect Match, here's Chris T Kat's take on how important names are for characters in a story.
*****************************
Names—Important or Not?
One question I've seen a lot in interviews goes along the lines of “how important are character names for you, and how do you go about naming them?”

I'm always struggling with an answer to this question. I know a lot of people research names, so the meaning of the name fits the character, etc., and I admire these writers for it.

My approach is much simpler. I have a list with names that I like. First, this list only existed in my head, but lately it made its way onto paper. Sometimes a character pops up and I immediately know his name. Other times, I can only “see” the character, but no name seems to be fitting. When that happens I consult my favorite list. If that still doesn't work, I browse through various sites with b…

BLOG TOUR: Fate's Wish by Milly Taiden

Image
Thanks to Bewitching Book Tours for hosting this blog tour. Hear what Milly Taiden has to say about titles. Happy reading!
*****************************
What’s in a Title?
Believe it or not, I’m one of those weird authors that cannot write until I have the absolute perfect title for my book. I mean I get stuck and it’s just like a big wall has been erected (lol) in front of me. So I can spend days thinking up the right title. For Fate’s Wish it was easy. The book kind of gave it away. I kept thinking how their getting back together was fate. No matter what they tried, they would always be pushed back together by love. Titles can make a person give a book a second look and capture reader attention from the get go. I like to make sure my titles have something to do with the story. I hate picking up a book that’s called Angel’s Demise and there’s nothing in there with angel, references to angels or even a town called angel. LOL. Titles can be very important and so I am very particular…

Aidan,

I do not know where you have been. This is my third visit to your miserable little cave, and I have yet to find you. I do not blame you being away all the time; I would hate to spend my days here as well. It is just as dreary as Incendio. I write to you in hopes that I can change your mind about what you are about to do. My father and sister are the last dragons you should be heeding advice from. As despondent as you were, I could never dream that you would be as vile as they. I’d rather not see you go down this path. It really does pain me to see you ignore my counsel; then again, you have never listened to me, so why would you begin now?

I really wish you would think it through before you abduct that slayer’s offspring. You …

BLOG TOUR: Glow in the Dark by Keira Kroft

Do you have a writing pattern (place, time, etc.) that you follow each day or does the writing decide what type of day it will be?
The answer to your question is not exactly simple. My reply is...yes and no. I find that I write best first thing in the morning. However...

I found that I could bottle that concept, by simply taking a nap and then having a cup of coffee. My brain works best when it is still a bit foggy but rested and caffeinated. Does that make sense?

Side note: I have also learned that I don’t want to get drunk while writing. Making jokes about becoming Hemmingway is not so cute when you read your drivel the next day and have to erase hours of work, because it is drunken babble that seemed like a good idea at the time.

Now that we know all my quirks, let me tell you how I went from someone that …
