REVIEW: Selling Out to the Billionaire by Penny Wylder

Summary:

He's rich, arrogant, and he's about to make me lose everything.

Derek Conway is my first client. I was so excited about selling a house and finally making some money. But I never expected him to be the client from hell.

Even if he's got abs of steel and a jaw that could cut through glass, the guy is completely awful. I'd punch him if I wasn't busy drooling on his shined shoes.

Nothing I show him is good enough. In fact, the only thing that has caught his attention is... me.

How can he eye-screw me while scolding me at the same time? And why does it turn me on so much?

If I don't get him to close on a deal soon, I'll end up on the street. I'd work with someone else but Derek won't let me. He demands all of my time.

Just when I think I've given him enough, he asks for more.

How far does he plan to push me?

And what if I can't say no?

Thoughts:

I have enjoyed everything I’ve read from Penny Wylder, though definitely some more than others. This was one of those others. I liked the premise and it was certainly hot, but there just wasn’t much more than that. In particular, there just didn’t seem to be enough depth to Derek for me. For all his explanations and everything, he really just came off like an arrogant ass to me. He did at least redeem himself for the ending though, which I enjoyed.

Bottom Line:

Selling Out to the Billionaire is a sexy quickie with a little exhibitionism spice. Don’t miss this one!

REVIEW: Caught Together by Penny Wylder

Summary:

He's hot enough that I could melt chocolate on his abs—and lick it off, while I'm at it.

Trevor King. My nineteen year old son's best friend.

Incredibly sexy.

Entirely off limits.

So when he shows up at my house to stay there for winter break, I'm stunned. He's going to sleep HERE? Within touching distance?

I'm itching to feel his powerful body. I've watched it grow strong in the hockey rink, I know what it can do. And unless I'm crazy, his cocky smirk and intense eyes say he wants me, too.

My whole family is staying under the same roof for the holidays. They'd lose it if they caught me with a guy so much younger than me. Kissing him would be very, VERY wrong.

But what if he kisses me first?

Title:  Caught Together

Thoughts:

So this one is a little on the taboo side, but I like a little taboo. That said, I was expecting this story to feel a little awkward, but it just didn’t much. It was actually quite hot with a good dose of sweetness and drama.

Bottom Line:

Caught Together is actually a very sweet read full of naughty fun. Pick this one up for an awesome quickie!

BLOG TOUR: Cowboys Don't Come Out by Tara Lain

Summary:

Rand McIntyre settles for good enough. He loves his small California ranch, raising horses, and teaching riding to the kids he adores—but having kids of his own and someone to love means coming out, and that would jeopardize everything he’s built. Then, despite his terror of flying, he goes on a holiday to Hana, Hawaii, with his parents and meets the dark and mysterious Kai Kealoha, a genuine Hawaiian cowboy. Rand takes to Kai’s kid brother and sister as much as he drools over Kai, but the guy sports more prickles than a horned toad and more secrets than the exotic land he comes from.

Kai’s earned his privacy and lives to protect his “kids.” He ought to stay away from the big, handsome cowboy for everyone’s sake—but since the guy’s just a haole on a short vacation, how much damage can he do? When all of Kai’s worst fears and Rand’s darkest nightmares come true at once, there’s not much chance for two cowboys who can’t—or won’t—come out.

Title:  Cowboys Don't Come Out
Series:  Cowboys Don't
Book #: 1
Author:  Tara Lain
Approximate Book Length:  200 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Explicit

Thoughts:

This was a really neat read. While not extensive or anything, I enjoyed all the Hawaiian culture and everything. I felt very immersed in the atmosphere and like I was a part of the story.

Rand has a good, if somewhat empty life, while Kai leads a stressful and secretive one. They bring so much into each other’s lives that I hung on every word just to fully experience their journey.

True to form, the author brought forth lovable, endearing characters that I just could not get enough of. The surrounding cast was so essential and fun that I can’t even describe them except to say they alone are worth grabbing this book to meet for yourself.

Bottom Line:

Cowboys Don't Come Out is an incredibly sweet start to what’s sure to be another great series from Tara Lain. Another must for any genre fan!

He stopped and tried to hear over the rushing of the surf out beyond the reef if anyone else hid in the dark. No sounds. Fortunately, no big water hit this beach, so he didn’t have to worry about getting swamped. Actually, between the lapping waves and the brilliant moonlight, the scene resembled some fairy-tale romance. Fuck that.

Right where the dry sand verged on the wet, he flopped on his butt. What she’d said—that he settled for a good-enough life. That he wasn’t happy. Don’t I get to decide that?

He leaned back on his elbows. Yeah, but she’s right. I created a whole life—as if I was somebody else. Most people find “the one” and build a future so it suits them both. I imagined a cowboy and slid into his boots—Rand McIntyre. Say that with a drawl, son. Just one problem. I’m gay—always have been—and cowboys don’t come out. Where does that leave me? A-fucking-lone, pardner. Always will be.

You’re not the only gay cowboy.

Have you seen Brokeback Mountain? Shit.

Phosphorescence sparkled on the tops of the waves farther out. Pretty. Guess there could be all kinds of weird man-eating shit in that water.

Do you think more sharks and barracudas swim at night than during the day?

Yeah, right.

He sprang up, stripped his Hawaiian shirt off and tossed it on the sand, then pulled off the shorts his mom had given him. Commando. What would it feel like to have fishes nibbling at his balls? Not like anybody else was doing any nibbling. He strode into the water. Whoa! Not cold, just startling.

When he waded out past his thighs, his penis and balls started to float. He chuckled. Kind of like being a kid in the bathtub. Endless hours of fun playing with your own built-in toys. A few more steps, and he submerged to his shoulders. He gave a tiny shiver. Weird being sunk in inky blackness. Still, the water felt good. He kicked off and swam a few yards out, turned, and stroked back towards shore. He wasn’t a good enough swimmer to push his luck alone at night.

After treading water a couple of minutes, he pulled himself back into the shallows and sat on the hard wet beach. He glanced down. Some shrinkage, but his balls still lay on the sand. Remember to rinse them off or you’ll itch. Slowly he released his breath. What was he going to do? Answer? Same as always. Nothing. He couldn’t risk all the great shit he’d made to try to make it better.

Gareth shifted uneasily in the darkened amphitheater. Another scene change. The effects were lovely and sometimes awe-inspiring, but he’d gotten the idea in the first half hour. He was ready to go.

He glanced to his left at Edge, who seemed fascinated with the show. Intriguing, since Edge had the attention span of a gnat. The other guys were more restless, jabbing each other when the bare-breasted art pieces appeared, but they managed to stay on the near side of rude.

He settled back for the duration. Maybe a little catnap. The lights came up as he started to close his eyes. He heard an indrawn breath and looked up. Holy, bloody, everlasting hell.

In the center of the vast stage, on a rotating platform in a single perfect spotlight, was David, the masterwork of Michelangelo. Gareth had seen it in Florence several times, and every sense he had told him he was looking at the actual statue, although his mind knew this was a human being. Glowing, luminous, absolutely still… sweet bloody Christ, how could someone do it? How could they have found a person so perfect?

He noticed a deep stillness in the audience and also among his mates. Edge was absolutely motionless. Unusual for him. But the statue, the guy, was just that beautiful.

Gareth cocked his head. The model’s legs were not as big and muscular as the Michelangelo. This “statue” was a bit leaner and even more graceful. The pedestal kept turning. He squinted. Bloody hell, he’d seen that perfect ass before. He peered into the pool of light as the David rotated. He’d seen those amazing cheekbones.

It was the guy from the beach and the shop. Gareth rifled through his program for the name. David Underwood. The one who owned the gallery. The fag. Gareth shifted onto his hip, leaning away from Edge. Wouldn’t do to let his pouf-hating friend see his massive erection.

REVIEW: Death Dancer by Tara Lain

Summary:

A tattooed dancer and a by-the-book detective dance with death in the ego-fueled halls of ballet.

Bad boy of ballet Valentin ‘Val’ Aalto stands poised on the verge of huge success—except for one big obstacle. Influential lead dancer Harry Hardesty hates Val and cheats him out of the lead in Romeo and Juliet.

When Hardesty winds up dead, Val looks like a prime suspect—and gets thrown under the detailed and methodical inspection of the handsome NY detective with the stick up his butt, Andrew Preston. At first, Preston believes Hardesty may be the victim of the chilling Dancer Killer who’s struck three victims, but evidence stacks up against Val.

Still, Andrew can’t seem to keep his hands off his suspect and when the Dancer Killer starts stalking Val, Andrew is forced to choose between his dedication to a job he loves and his growing passion for his beautiful dancer. Together Val and Andrew discover that chaos can be beautiful, one should choose desserts wisely, and love can even trump death in the rehearsal halls of ballet.

Title:  Death Dancer
Series:  Dangerous Dancers
Book #: 2
Author:  Tara Lain
Approximate Book Length:  228 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Explicit

Thoughts:

I really liked both characters, though I feel like some of the get-to-know-you moments might’ve happened off screen. There were a ton of secondary characters, particularly from the ballet studio, and they were occasionally a little difficult to follow, but it helped provide possibilities from almost every angle, both regarding the mystery and future books in the series.

Speaking of the mystery, usually I’m all about the romance, but it was actually the mystery in this book that kept me riveted. Some of the answers were predictable, but some not so much. It’s not until the final few chapters that everything is revealed, and that was so great.

Bottom Line:

Death Dancer is a wonderful romantic mystery that introduces new characters and includes the lovable faces from the first book. Pick this one up for an awesome read!

REVIEW: Get Me Off by Penny Wylder

Summary:

No guy has ever been able to get me off. It was my little secret.

Until I accidentally told the whole world.

Spilling something so humiliating on my social media is bad enough, I never expected anyone to actually message me about it. Especially not someone as smug and sexy as Heath "O Maker" James.

He tells me he doesn't just THINK he can get me off—he knows it.

As hot as he is, he's a total stranger. I shouldn't give him the time of day.

But the more he talks... the more he tells me all the dirty things he wants to do to me...

The more I can't say no.

And once Heath gets his way, I'll be only screaming one word: Yes!

Title:  Get Me Off
Series:  N/A
Book #: N/A
Author:  Penny Wylder
Approximate Book Length:  100 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Explicit

Thoughts:

This was a fast fun read. I felt what she felt and got hot flashes right along with her. Heath is a pretty compelling character that I took a little bit of time to like once I got past his history. Their chemistry jumps off the page and they are actually pretty cute together. My only issue was with how quickly she let herself sleep with him. I would’ve held out longer, but I’m not actually in her shoes.

Bottom Line:

Get Me Off is a quick sexy read that had me glued to the page. Pretty awesome novella!
