REVIEW: Darkness Dawns by Dianne Duvall

Recap:

Sarah Bingham thought her biggest problem was dealing with lazy students, but then she rescues a man from certain death at the hands of two sadists, landing her in an age-old battle between vampires and immortals. Roland is the most intriguing man she’s ever met, but there’s something about him that sounds warning bells within her. Roland Warbrook has never known anyone as tempting in his nine centuries of life as Sarah, but getting involved with him would cost her everything and he could never ask that of her.

Thoughts:

This novel is utterly compelling and truly unique! Dianne Duvall introduces a neat version of vampire lore that is still completely believable, and does so in a simple enough way as to easily understand it all, yet complex enough to stay interesting. There are laugh out loud funny moments, heart-pounding action sequences, and steamy, but sweetly sensual sex.

The characters, oh the characters! You can’t help but fall for every single character, each having that special something that draws you in. While still able to have a little fun here and there, everyone behaved like adults and for the first time in a really long time, there’s tension and conflict, but none of the characters ever make me want to smack them upside the head for being stupidly stubborn in fighting a situation or for simply not opening their mouth and talking out something irking them.

Overall, the book is well written and well-paced, grabbing the reader’s interest right from the very first page and never letting go. It’ll have you reading well into the night unable to put it down. The best part is there’s no cliffhanger ending! However, you are left with a question burning in your mind, making you down right twitch in anticipation for the next book…I would know *twitch*.

In Conclusion:

My first 4-star review, this story has easily climbed into my favorites list and refuses to budge. I literally can’t find anything in it to complain about. You’ll find everything you’re looking for in a paranormal romance within the pages, and I will recommend this to anyone who enjoys the genre. My (signed *squee*) copy now resides on my “Precious” shelf along with some of my other favorites!
