REVIEW: Snow Balls by Tara Lain

JJ looks like an alpha male, but acts like an interior designer and is happy with that, until a robbery at the Winter Fantasy brings tough cop, Ryan, into his life. JJ hears that Ryan likes manly men, so he tries to be that, but it’s a struggle. Ryan’s had a tough time of it and lives in the closet as much as possible because of it, but he can’t seem to stay away from JJ. During a ski trip together, secrets are revealed, thanks to an intruder that brings the truth out of JJ. Can JJ learn to live with who he really is, and will Ryan love him for the real man behind the lies?

I love this series, and was really excited for the next installment to be released. However, I didn’t quite feel the same magic as the previous stories. The chemistry was hot, and the characters endearing, but the connection between JJ and Ryan felt a little forced at times, though that could simply be attributed to the strain among them due to secrets.

Ryan’s character felt pretty authentic and while I thought he should give a little when it came to coming out, I understand his hesitation. JJ’s character didn’t quite have the same feel. He struggled with being ok with who he was, but at the same time seemed like he should’ve been more comfortable and confident because it was such a presence within him. Granted, I do appreciate that part of his struggle came from trying to be what he thought Ryan wanted, but that just made me want to smack him haha!

Ultimately another great story from Tara Lain with cameos from past characters. I hope in future installments we see more of these two, as well as others, and there are a few characters that look like they might be a potential focus for future stories :D!

In Conclusion:

A perfect mixture of fun, sweet, and downright hot, Snow Balls is a great read for any time of year, but especially shines in the Christmas season!
