REVIEW: The Master Shark's Mate by Zoe Chant

Blurb:

Hated and mistrusted. Feared and misunderstood. For decades, the Master Shark has protected the underwater city of Atlantis. Now, his Empress has set him his most difficult mission yet:

A relaxing beach vacation.

Coyote shifter Martha Hernandez doesn't want to take a vacation. She doesn't want to sit around in some fancy all-shifter resort when her pack could be getting up to who-knows-what mischief in her absence. And she definitely doesn't want to bang this mysterious scarred, silent stranger like a screen door in a hurricane.

Nope nope nope. No matter that he's her one true mate. She's a respectable widow with no call to be having such fool notions at her time of life. What would her family think?

But he is the Master Shark. And he has never failed in the hunt. He'll capture his mate's heart... even if it means learning to salsa.

Thoughts:

This was different. Just all around different. The Master Shark isn't actually part of the firefighter crew, but is linked to John, so there's less of any of them. The setting is at a resort that I later learned became a spin off so it felt a little like setup for that. However, none of that took away from my enjoyment. The setting is neat and we meet a couple background characters that were fun.

Martha is a take no bull older woman with so much vitality. The Master Shark is a man so used to solitude he feels he has nothing to offer, but strives to win her heart anyway. They are surprisingly sweet together and while yes the love scenes are steamy, the dancing scenes are almost steamier. Their ending is a tad bittersweet, but mostly just happy and fun.

Bottom Line:

The Master Shark's Mate is a story about love and family. It's sweet and saucy and all around a great read.
