REVIEW: Lover Revealed by JR Ward

Butch O’Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard-living ex–homicide cop, he’s the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world. He’s got nothing to lose. His heart belongs to a female vampire, an aristocratic beauty who’s way out of his league. If he can’t have Marissa, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers.

Fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, he’s found by a miracle, and the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back. But even her love may not be enough to save him.

Title:  Lover Revealed
Series:  Black Dagger Brotherhood
Book #: 4
Author:  JR Ward
Approximate Book Length:  514 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Moderate

I was surprised when this wasn't the second book given how Butch featured in the first one. There are some heavy themes in this book such as the root of evil, sexuality, and suicide.

There is so much that I love about this book. V features heavily, which makes sense given that he took responsibility for Butch's presence in the brotherhood's world and that his book is next. The relationship V and Butch gets strengthened and is even given purpose.

Marissa shows some serious growth in this book. She comes off as kind of a doormat for a long time, so it's great to see her go for what she really wants and show some spine. I also love her "first time" experience and her talk with Beth. It's realistic and very relatable.

Butch gets a lot of new experiences and it's kind of cool to see some of them. One of them does bring about some serious questions about lineage that doesn't really get answered in this book.

Bottom Line:

Lover Revealed has a lot of heart warming moments as well as some pretty suspenseful ones. It brings some deeper insight into the lesser world as well as the vampire one.
