Summary:

Suzannah McCormick is the sweet girl working hard as the executive assistant to Advantage’s CEO. But underneath her saccharine southern charm is a vixen-in-waiting. She’s never been with a man that tapped into that side of her, but she set her sights on Mark Olson with high hopes.

Mark doesn’t realize his single status and his heart are in jeopardy.

Approximate Book Length:  61 Pages

Sexual Content:  Explicit

Thoughts:

Each novella is pretty short, so I’ll just briefly touch on each of them. The first book was sexy, but John was a little too aggressive in the beginning for my taste. It also felt a little rushed and easy in general. The second book was my favorite! It was more realistic and was very cute and sweet without losing any hotness. I didn’t much like the third book at first. Mark started off as a jerk and Suzannah started off a little slutty. However, I loved the cameos from the first two couples (as well as the first couple in the second book) and especially loved the epilogue at the end. It totally made it all worth it and wrapped it up nicely.

Bottom Line:

The Taking Advantage series has plenty of sexy hotness, a strong dose of alpha male, and just enough happily ever after to satisfy. Don’t miss this trio of stories!

Title:  My Cowboy Promises
Series:  The Cowboy
Book #: 4
Author:  ZA Maxfield
Approximate Book Length:  282 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Moderate

Thoughts:

This was my first ZA Maxfield book and I look forward to more of her work. It started off pretty slow for me, but that was due to situational setup. There were several elements to the conflict so it took time to build. When the poo hit the fan, it REALLY hit, but I liked the resolution. The story was very family focused in multiple ways which I loved and appreciated. The characters stayed true from start to finish and, including flaws, were very endearing. I didn’t always love Andy, but she came through in the end, as did the men. Overall, it was a very sweet, compelling read.

Bottom Line:

My Cowboy Promises is a complicated story about love and the significance of family. It’s a pretty awesome and emotional read!

Title:  Waking the Dragon
Series:  Vale of Stars
Book #: 1
Author:  Juliette Cross
Approximate Book Length:  288 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Moderate

Thoughts:

This book was a pleasant surprise. It sounds interesting from the blurb and all, but upon reading it, I was completely entranced. I loved both lead characters as individuals and as a couple. I loved the supporting characters too. The romance was heart pounding with hot love scenes. The plot was compelling with great world building.

This appears to be a spinoff series from the author’s Night Wing series. There are two stories prior to this one, but they are part of that other series. I noticed that those stories must have happened, but didn’t necessarily feel like I was missing anything vital. I do however, want to go read them, but I would feel that way anyway because I enjoyed this book so much and want to read anything set in this world now!

Bottom Line:

Waking the Dragon is a riveting tale that I couldn’t put down. Grab this one for an awesome paranormal read!

MY SECOND PREGNANCY - Introduction

INTRODUCTION

Hey all. First let me apologize for not talking about life with a newborn. I meant to write about it, but as you can imagine, life with a baby is busy and exhausting.

I enjoyed writing about my pregnancy with Tara, and thought I’d do it again for this pregnancy. I think I’m starting a little later than last time as I’m already 24 weeks pregnant, but that’s not a big deal at this time.

This time will be just as honest and graphic as before, but this time the focus will likely be on the differences between this pregnancy and the last one. I had always heard that each pregnancy is different, but always thought that they’d generally be pretty similar none the less.

I was wrong. There have been quite a few differences, some of which are typical of not being a first – such as things happening sooner. It’s called the “warmed up” effect.

I will say that the biggest difference is that I don’t get to revel in the good things much like I did with Tara. I could ohhh and ahhh over every little movement and take the time to obsess over every baby item. This time around I chase Tara and barely register that the baby is moving and only get to play with baby stuff about once a week (when the hubby spends time with Tara). I do get to revel in it some, don’t get me wrong, just not nearly as often.

Being pregnant a second time is awesome and terrifying, much like the first time, only for different reasons. I know how smoothly it can and will most likely go, so I’m not scared and I can’t wait to meet the tiny human I get to spend 9 months growing. However, it’s utterly terrifying because having a toddler can be a handful and frankly extremely frustrating sometimes and I find myself sometimes wondering what I was thinking wanting to do it again! Then I see pictures or videos of Tara when she was tiny, and see her do something adorable right in front of me or sweet with me when the thought crosses my mind and remember, oh yeah – that’s why, because kids are amazing.

So this series of articles with detail my adventures in pregnancy the second time around. The good, the bad, all of it. It’ll probably be considerably shorter this series though for multiple reasons ranging from busy with a toddler, and pregnant and tired, to there’s only so much to talk about that I didn’t talk about before. I referred to Tara as “Tiny Curran” or “TC” while pregnant with her, and this time we’ve been calling our son “Tiny Curran – The Sequel” or just “The Sequel” for short.

BLOG TOUR: A Sorceress of His Own by Dianne Duvall

Thanks to Authors Taproom for hosting this blog tour. I have the wonderful Dianne Duvall, author of A Sorceress of His Own, here with a character interview between Sheldon and Seth (my personal fave). Welcome! :-)

*****************************

Character Interview: Seth

Thank you for joining me! I’m very excited to be here today, celebrating the release of A SORCERESS OF HIS OWN, the first book in my new series The Gifted Ones and my first historical romance. Every time a new book releases, I like to introduce readers to the characters they’ll find in it via character interviews. Since men and women in the middle ages didn’t interview each other for company newsletters, I’ve decided to let Sheldon (a popular human character in my Immortal Guardians paranormal romance series) interview Seth (the powerful leader of my Immortal Guardians), because Seth also appears in A SORCERESS OF HIS OWN.

Sheldon: Thanks for doing another interview. I know how busy you are.

Seth: The humans at the Network have been on edge lately—with good reason—so if interviews like this will put them at ease and help them feel more comfortable around immortals and gifted ones, I’m happy to do them.

Sheldon: Thanks, man. I appreciate it. How are you holding up, by the way?

Seth: What do you mean?

Sheldon: Well, with everything that’s been going on . . .

Seth: I’m fine, thank you.

Sheldon: You don’t want to talk about it?

Seth: No.

Sheldon: Okay. So, I interviewed Marcus and Roland the other day.

Seth: *lips twitch* How did the interview with Roland go?

Sheldon: *grimaces* It didn’t exactly end on an up note.

Seth: *laughs* Roland may not be as antisocial as he used to be now that he’s married, but Sarah can’t work miracles.

Sheldon: *smiles* Apparently not. Speaking of miracles . . . I’d like to talk about gifted ones. Can you tell us a little bit about them for the newbies at The Network?

Seth: Of course. Gifted ones are men and women who were born with extremely advanced DNA that lends them special gifts that ordinary humans lack. Telepathy, for example. Or precognition. Teleportation is another.

Sheldon: That is so cool. I wish I could teleport.

Seth: I admit that’s a favorite of mine.

Sheldon: No one seems to know the source of gifted ones’ advanced DNA. Do you?

Seth: Yes.

Sheldon: *waits a long moment* So . . . will you share it with us?

Seth: No.

Sheldon: Why?

Seth: Because bloodshed always follows when I do.

Sheldon: Seriously?

Seth: Yes.

Sheldon: Oooookay. Well . . . when I was interviewing Marcus and Roland, they mentioned a gifted one named Alyssa.

Seth: *cocks his head to one side* Which one?

Sheldon: Which one mentioned her?

Seth: No. Which Alyssa?

Sheldon: There was more than one gifted one named Alyssa?

Seth: Yes. Alyssa of Westcott in the 12th century and her granddaughter in the 13th.

Sheldon: Oh. We were talking about the first one. The one who served as Lord Dillon’s wisewoman.

Seth: I suspected as much, considering Marcus’s history.

Sheldon: So you knew her?

Seth: Yes.

Sheldon: What did you think of her?

Seth: I admired her. It took a great deal of courage to use her gifts openly the way she did.

Sheldon: That’s what Marcus and Roland said.

Seth: Both her aunt and uncle were slain by men and women who feared their “sorcery” and blamed them for every unexpected hardship that arose. Alyssa’s mother, too, was nearly slain.

Sheldon: I don’t think Marcus and Roland mentioned that.

Seth: They may not know it.

Sheldon: I’m surprised Alyssa didn’t just . . . I don’t know . . . withdraw from society completely. Live in isolation for her own protection.

Seth: *shakes his head* Alyssa was determined to use her gifts to help others. And her ruse with the dark robes, coupled with Dillon’s fierce reputation, offered her some protection and enabled her to do so with less risk.

Sheldon: Did you know Lord Dillon?

Seth: I did. He was an honorable man, and utterly ferocious on the battlefield. I could name on one hand the number of warriors I’ve met who could match Dillon’s skills with a sword.

Sheldon: *eyebrows raising* Even immortals?

Seth: Even immortals. I would’ve loved to spar with him, but never found the opportunity.

Sheldon: You sound like you admired him as much as you did Alyssa.

Seth: I did. He was ahead of his time, very forward thinking.

Sheldon: What do you mean?

Seth: He didn’t consider women subservient. He valued Alyssa’s intelligence and talent for strategy greatly and often consulted her before making important decisions. When others spurned her for her differences, he embraced them.

Sheldon: Are you sure he wasn’t a gifted one himself? You gifted ones and immortals do seem to adore strong women. And Marcus said Alyssa was so strong she sometimes rode into battle at Dillon’s side.

Seth: *smiles* Dillon wasn’t a gifted one. But Alyssa was indeed strong. The two really were perfect for each other, both bearing reputations that bred fear and kept others at bay. Even with an enemy bent on destroying them both, they still— *breaks off and frowns when his cell phone vibrates, then retrieves it from a back pocket* I’m sorry. I have to take this.

Sheldon: No problem.

Seth: Yes? *listens for a moment, then addresses Sheldon* I’m needed in Portugal.

Sheldon: Okay. Thanks for the—

Seth: *vanishes*

Sheldon: Interview.

Thoughts:

Dianne Duvall provides a brand new addiction in the form of a new series that has all the magic of her Immortal Guardians series (as well as cameos from a couple favorite characters) in a whole new setting. This story was well paced, emotional, and mysterious keeping me glued to the page. I read it in a day, which is impressive given that I have to chase a toddler around.

The characters were vivid, had depth, and endearing with the villain being perfectly despicable. There is plenty of room for more in the series, and I hope as well as suspect that some of the future stories will coincide with the backstories for some of the immortals from the contemporary PNR series (IG).

I’m not normally a fan of historical romance, but I completely fell in love with this one!

Bottom Line:

A Sorceress of His Own is achingly sweet and left me both sad it was over and wishing for so much more in the best way. What a fantastic start to an exciting new series!
