Thoughts:

My feelings are a little mixed on this one. It seems a little unrealistic and they don’t really seem to know each other that well when he starts talking about falling for her and not having a future without her. It really comes off more as infatuation bordering on obsession than love, at least at first. However, while it moved a little fast, it was overall very sweet and heartwarming to see Maisie find happiness after the tragedy she endured.

Bottom Line:

Begin Again is a story about surviving and finding happiness where you least expect it. It’s worth checking out.

Abaddon’s eyes met mine, and I turned to head down the dark street toward a quieter spot, a less public place. I wasn’t sure what Abaddon had in mind, but I knew it wasn’t going to be pleasant. I didn’t want anyone to accidentally find us or to valiantly step in, trying to be a hero.

As I headed farther away from the commotion of Bourbon Street, into the darkness, I didn’t need to turn to make sure they were following me.

I could feel them.

As we got farther from safety, my radar grew more and more intense, as if it was sensing their anticipation of what was to come.

I approached a dark alleyway and figured this would be as good a place as any to do it. Only the hazy illumination of a streetlight reached here, and no doors or windows could be seen, just the back sides of two buildings.

An efficient place to die.

It was here and now. I turned to face Abaddon, startled to find him leaning down, merely an inch away.

REVIEW: Edge of Passion by Tina Folsom

***This book was originally reviewed for GraveTells.***
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summary:
Thanks to his immortal Cloak Warrior powers, Aiden has been protecting humans for two centuries, but the demons are getting stronger, and the Cloak Warriors are losing charges more and more of late. After some tough losses, Aiden is assigned to protect a woman who could be the key to humanity’s undoing if she fell into the demons’ hands. Aiden is loyal, but the scientist he’s protecting, Leila, opens up his eyes to a whole host of challenges, the biggest being their forbidden relationship.
Thoughts:
So this book took me on an adventure! The action begins right away, along with the story. It doesn’t take long before you get a sense of who the characters are, and even the world is pretty easy to understand. Aiden begrudgingly takes this next assignment to protect an important scientist, despite a growing sense of futility, and finds more than he bargains for in the feisty, intelligent Leila. The action is non-stop, as is the occasionally embarrassing sexual tension, making for a very well paced story.
At first I actually didn’t much like Aiden, besides the honor code he lives by, because he was cynical and temperamental. As time went on, other than an occasional asinine comment towards Leila, he really grew on me as she changed him. His partner Manus however, deserved to be smacked. Often. As for Aiden’s best friend and fellow Cloak Warrior, Hamish…Well I just hope his story is next :D.
There were a few moments where I thought I saw a little inconsistency, such as “I thought she was wearing a bathrobe, and now he’s tearing her jeans off? *scratches head*”. However, the heat of the moment, as you might imagine, *clears throat* makes you completely ignore afore mentioned observation. My only real complaint is that in all the mystery, we are shown the identity of the primary villain just a chapter or two before the characters discover it, completely ruining the surprise. While that really bugged me, the conflict was still very exciting and the ending utterly satisfying, especially since it leaves room for more! The best part is that while there’s action and intrigue, and loads of steam, overall it’s actually a fairly light hearted read, and it had me up until 4AM finishing it because I couldn’t put it down.
Tina Folsom gives us a heartfelt story about a jaded warrior learning to trust again, and a dedicated scientist learning to be truly selfless. She weaves in corruption, mystery, and my favorite, mates that were always meant to be. This action-packed, romantic adventure is definitely not one to be missed!
REVIEW: More than Friends by Aria Grace
Summary:
Tired of moping around after the breakup of his long term girlfriend, Ryan knew he needed a hookup to get him out of his funk. When he met Drea, he hoped she might be the one. But when he felt more chemistry with her gay cousin Zach, Ryan was more confused than he had ever been in his life. He wasn't gay but he wanted to be with Zach. How could it possibly work?
Title:  More than Friends
Series:  More than Friends
Book #: 1
Author:  Aria Grace
Approximate Book Length:  98 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Explicit
Thoughts:
This one was a good book, though it wasn’t one that really stuck with me. It was sweet and sexy, with likeable characters. I will say that while I liked the book, there was one major thing that bothered me. Zach talks of making Ryan’s first time hurt as little as possible. Pain just shouldn’t be involved, and when done right, is NOT present. I read a lot of M/M romance, and it’s a lot sweeter when the focus isn’t on getting past the pain. I guess though it’s a virginal thing. First time generally hurts a little. Anyway, besides that pet peeve of mine, it was a good friends to lovers/gay for you kind of story, just not a particularly memorable one.
Bottom Line:
More than Friends is a cute story of a guy finding what he didn’t know to look for. Don’t miss out on it!
BLOG TOUR: Hunger Embraced by Jennifer James
My good friend Jennifer James is touring with Hunger Embraced in preparation for the release of book 2, Humber Unbound. Happy reading!
*****************************
She’s fed up with being fed on.
All Miranda Thibodeaux really wants to do is survive corporate hell and be left alone. But as the daughter of the Incubi king, being left alone isn’t on her schedule. And as an avatar to a goddess with multiple personality issues, taking things in stride isn’t either. Daniel looks like an ordinary surfer boy—T. T. B.--Tall, Tanned, and Blond. Hot he may be, but ordinary he’s not. Beneath the pretty packaging lies a ruthless warrior, a servant to the Vampire Council. His mission is to find Miranda and present her to the council, then get the hell out of Dodge before he loses his focus. The last thing he needs is the distraction of the testy female.
When circumstances force Miranda to turn to T.T.B. for help, they both end up with more than they bargained for. And that normal human life she wanted? Not really doable when everyone wants a piece of her…
“May I have a kiss?” He lowered his head to the side and waited for my reply.
The sweetness of the question melted me. Our mouths met and moved over each other with slow brushes of lips and tongue. The edge of one of his fangs grazed my flesh, opening a small cut, and he sucked on it hard, releasing me when the wound closed. I wished I had fangs of my own so I could do the same to him.
He sliced himself and shoved his tongue into my mouth. His blood was hot and potent with unspent magic. It tasted of the cleanest water I’d ever drank—the most refreshing thing ever to cross my lips.
Perhaps the mind reading wasn’t so bad.
He slid my shorts down and off, coaxing my thighs apart even further until my knees rested on the mattress and I straddled his waist. I assumed he’d move to penetrate me, but he continued to kiss me and tease my pussy with his fingers.
I curled the edge of the T-shirt in my hands, hauling it up nice and slow so that I could watch his face as my stomach and breasts were revealed. He smiled at me, tracing first one, then the other areola in a careful, teasing circle. I arched my back, thrusting them out, enjoying the slow, gentle touch. His magic continued to follow wherever his flesh touched me, warm and kneading on my skin.
Miranda Thibodeaux has one goal: save her best friend Anna from masochist Adrian Kaiser, Incubi king and the vampire her father intended for her to marry.
Escaping the Council’s clutches, politicking with Celtic goddesses, surviving demon attacks, thwarting a ghost with deadly intent, and finding out her best friend Anna has a magical genetic pedigree linking her to the Morrigan are manageable.
However, when her Hunger is ripped from her body and takes physical form, draining everyone she can with abandon, Miri grows weaker by the moment. It isn’t long before everyone realizes that if Miri and her magic aren’t reunited, they’ll both fade away.
But with the goddess Babd assembling an army of the dead to combat rogue Empaths and demanding Miri’s participation in battle, demon attacks, assassination attempts, and shocking revelations about her mate Daniel’s past, she has to find help and fast.
REVIEW: Inhale by Kendall Grey
***This book was originally reviewed for GraveTells.***
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Summary:

A chance to be director of a whale tagging project in Australia could mean a promotion for a whale biologist Zoe Morgan, but things start to go wrong as her dreams take an eerie turn. Following the death of his partner, sentinel Gavin Cassidy drowns himself in typical human vices and stays out of the Dreaming, until he’s called to help the human Wyldling, Zoe, as she’s attacked by Fyre Elementals. They both find more than they thought to look for in each other, but will it be enough to save themselves and the entire human race?

Thoughts:

Things are intense between Gavin and Zoe right from the start, as she’s hunted in the Dreaming by an unknown enemy, and has no idea what’s going on (let alone that it’s not just some weird dream). Gavin vows to protect her so she doesn’t end up like his partner, and it brings him closer to her as she comes to depend on him – her perfect dream guy. Things heat up between them and it only further complicates things as trouble continues to find them. Gavin and Zoe end up a part of something bigger than either could have imagined and it’ll change them both forever, though neither has any idea where it will really leave them after all is said and done.

There’s a lot going on in this story, almost to the point of confusion. Between the world building, which took me a few chapters to really understand (which I’m still a little iffy on), and the political intrigues, it was a little hard to follow at times. I was left with many unanswered questions, but I have to believe it’s setup for book 2, which I will be on the lookout for!

On a side note, there is a big underlying whale conservationist tone in this book, which from what I understand coincides with Kendall Grey’s real life mission. Props to her for finding a new and interesting way of speaking out and expressing her passion for the subject!

Inhale has an interesting world that includes a dream realm where anything is possible and a reality where dreams may come to life, and is laced with a very intricate story line that will keep you guessing until the very last page.

REVIEW: Waiting for Ty by Samantha Ann King

Summary:

Tyler Coil doesn't do men. But it's harder to remember that each time he visits his best friend, gorgeous Landon Burke. As a political reporter, Ty is good at reading people, and he can tell the lust is mutual. But giving in to it could mean alienating his ultra-conservative family.

Then Ty crashes at Landon's while working on a story—and a searing kiss ignites a night of mind-blowing sex that's better than their most erotic fantasies. Forced to face his feelings, Ty must decide if love is worth the risk after all—before he loses Landon forever.

Title:  Waiting for Ty
Series:  Lovers and Friends
Book #: 2
Author:  Samantha Ann King
Approximate Book Length:  106 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Moderate

Thoughts:

This one kept me glued to the page. I absolutely couldn’t put it down. It was emotional, though not depressing, and the guys were actually very sweet together. Everything felt so realistic, like these people were friends of mine. I love these characters and can’t get enough of them!

I actually read this one before I read book 1, not realizing they were part of a series, let alone out of order. Once I realized it, I made sure to read book 1. I never felt like I’d missed anything. This book stands alone very well, and almost happens at the same time as Hailey’s book. The book, and the series, is well written!

Bottom Line:

Waiting for Ty is a compelling, authentic read that left me wanting more! If you like M/M romance, you definitely need to read this!

*****************************

Cole Harker, son of an alpha werewolf, is bigger and more powerful than most wolves, tongue-tied in groups, and gay. Then Cole meets Analiese’s half-brother, panther shifter Paris Marketo, and for the first time, Cole wants something for himself.

When Analiese runs off to marry a human, Cole finally has a chance with Paris, but the solitary cat rejects him, the pack, and everything it represents. Then Cole discovers the gangster wants Paris too and won’t rest until he has him. What started as a land dispute turns into World War Wolf! But the bigger fight is the battle between cats and dogs.

Cole took hold of a branch a few feet from Paris. “Do you think the alliance will stand?” He shrugged. “Hard to say. I know everyone hopes so, so I hope so too.” Cole pulled his eyebrows together. “But you don’t really care.”

Paris looked up sharply. “Yes, I care. I care about my parents. They’ve been good to me and I owe them a lot. I’m a freak by wolf standards, and my father has never abjured me. I honestly believe he kept me separate for my well-being more than his own. He acknowledges me as his son even though I remind him of his greatest sorrow.”

“Your panther mother.” He nodded. “And Trixie isn’t a brave female. My existence is difficult for her, but she’s been nothing but good to me. She had to stand against the combined disapproval of a lot of other females for me. They didn’t know what I was, but they knew I was Merced’s first wife’s son. They weren’t kind. She was. I value her and want the best.”

Cole nodded. If there was one thing he understood, it was loyalty.

“And then there’s you.”

Cole glanced up. Look at that mischievous face. He’d switched from deeply serious to court jester in one second flat. “What about me?” He grinned.

The cat danced around his tree, unfastening buttons on his shirt with intricate skill. “You want the alliance and I want you. Isn’t that an Aristotelian principle? If A equals B and B equals C, then Paris wants Cole to have his alliance so Paris can have Cole’s big yummy cock in his ass. An ass, I might add, that’s been throbbing like a voodoo drum since I first looked in your silver eyes, wolfman.” He whipped off the shirt, leaving his upper body bare.

Wow. Even knowing what was coming, that sight was hard to believe. The cat’s skin glowed in the moonlight like so much alabaster formed into a work of art. If you liked bulky, you wouldn’t like Paris. But if the look of a black leopard stealing along a branch stilled your heart, this sight would do it for you down to the ground. Not really slim. More like lean, with muscles just where they should be, but as if they were made of silk rather than stone. Fluid.

Paris reached and grabbed a branch, then pulled himself up one-armed until he leaned over the wood on his belly. Flip. He circled and came up to sitting, his upper body glowing and long legs dangling. He spread his arms out for a second as if balancing on a tightrope. Then he reached in and started to unfasten his belt. Slowly, he slipped it from his trousers, then swung it over his head until it caught on an upper branch.

He pulled himself to standing and used one hand to slowly lower his fly. White showed in the gap. Oh my. Not white underwear. White skin. Cole shuddered. He wasn’t used to this kind of sexy. Hell, who was? This cat was one of a kind.

BLOG TOUR: Fake It by Jennifer Chance

Thanks to Barclay Publicity for hosting this blog tour. I'm sharing my review of Jennifer Chance's Fake It today. Happy Reading!

*****************************

Summary:

New grad Anna Richardson works hard—so hard that she’s given up having a romantic life. Anna has even convinced her friends that she’s dating an amazing guy—who they’ve simply never met. But now Anna has a wedding to attend and needs to produce the hottie she’s been lying about for the past six months. Enter Jake Flynn, her infuriating, motorcycle-riding, jaw-droppingly gorgeous neighbor, who’s more than willing to fake it for a weekend. In fact, Jake won’t be satisfied until things get real.

Though Jake is only playing the role of adoring boyfriend, he’s starting to feel the heat, and judging by Anna’s sweet blush, so is she. Letting chemistry this intense go to waste would be a real shame. Soon, though, the thin line between fantasy and reality fades. Jake may not be what every buttoned-up fast-tracker wants, but he’s sure as hell what Anna needs. And if she takes a ride with him, their adventure never has to end.

Title:  Fake It
Series:  Rule Breakers
Book #: 2
Author:  Jennifer Chance
Approximate Book Length:  233 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Moderate

Thoughts:

I didn’t really read the blurb for this one, just jumped in because I enjoyed the first book and was pleasantly surprised to realize it wouldn’t be about another member of the band from book 1. I liked Anna, but found her a little annoying sometimes. Jake is sexy, but a little impulsive for my taste. The combination made for a read that I enjoyed, but couldn’t quite relate to and immerse myself in.

They were extremely stubborn and lived in denial for the majority of the book, but it was still cute and fun to watch their drama unfold. I loved the spontaneity they showed, what with the aquarium love scene and the random road trip. The ending was expected, but a little disappointing as I just wanted more from it. I suppose you could say it was a little too simple. Overall, the characters and plot just didn’t have the same cohesion as its predecessor, though was still enjoyable.

Bottom Line:

Fake It is about a girl learning to let go of her fears and the surprising guy that shows her how. Don’t miss out on this fun sequel that promises even more fun to come in the series!

“Tell me something. You got someone special in your life?” Her ring finger was naked, so he was pretty sure she wasn’t married. If she was, her husband was a dumbass for not making sure the world knew she was taken.

She hesitated, making him wonder what her secrets were. “Guess I’m still waiting for the right guy to sweep me off my feet.”

He could’ve been that guy once. He stared at her fingers working havoc on yet another label, dumbfounded she’d made him consider what it would be like to be that man again. To have someone who belonged to him as much as he belonged to her.

“What are you really doing here? You can’t tell me you didn’t recognize Gavin’s name when they hired you.”

“I did. I’m not really sure why I said yes. I guess I’d hoped to see you.”

That excited him more than it should. He pulled her stool forward until her knees were nestled in the vee of his legs. “You guess?”

“I didn’t have a plan, if that’s what you’re wondering. If your brother hadn’t hired me, I wouldn’t be here right now. But he did.”

“Yes, he did.” He’d have to thank Gavin later. Much later. He had the house to himself for once, and a beautiful woman within his grasp. He couldn’t think beyond the need that held his balls in a vise.

He traced his fingertips down her bare thigh. Her shoulders twitched, not quite a shiver, but close enough to make his dick pulse in anticipation.

She grabbed his wrist, her short, well-manicured nails digging into his skin. He wanted those nails scoring his back, biting into his ass as he pushed into her.

He stilled, waited to see if she’d shove him away.

She didn’t.

Her eyes drifted closed, thick lashes resting beautifully against her skin.

She pulled his hand across her flesh to the hem of her shorts, which caused an eruption of tiny bumps to form across her skin. Her nipples peaked, pressed toward him, all but begged him to tongue, tease, and suck.

He took over from there, following the line of her shorts to her inner thigh, allowing the backs of his fingers to brush where he wanted his mouth.

She made a noise, a soft sound of consent that about killed him. Heat radiated from the denim that stood between his hand and heaven.

“I’ve got nothing to offer you, Reese. Pleasure, nothing more.” She had a right to know where he stood, had a right to walk away if he didn’t suit her needs. Although if she turned him away now, he had a feeling one shower—a hundred showers—wouldn’t be enough to rid him of the desire burning through his veins.

She nodded, her dreamy expression giving his ego a shot of adrenaline. Hell yeah. He’d keep that look on her face all damned night.

“Tell me you understand, Reesey. I need to know we’re on the same page here.”

She licked her lips. “I understand I want you. We’ve been here before. I didn’t expect anything of you then, and I don’t expect anything of you now.”

He dismissed the tug on his guilt strings, not in the mood to revisit the past when his immediate future looked so promising. Plenty of time to talk later.

Pleasure. That’s what he could give her. Would give her.

He prayed it’d be enough.

“Let’s go upstairs.”

REVIEW: The Fallen Queen by Jane Kindred

***This book was originally reviewed for GraveTells.***
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summary:
Escaping the slaughter of her ruling family on a random chance, Anazakia flees Heaven with two demons who have agendas of their own. Hunted by the highest level of assassins, they seek refuge in the world of man, where the three of them try to figure out how to get out of the mess they’re in. Realizing how bad things really are, they return to Heaven to fight for their lives.
Thoughts:
When I read the blurb for this book, I was expecting a classic Good vs. Evil and Heaven vs. Hell scenario. Well, there’s the Good vs. Evil, but they’re not quite in the usual places, nor is the romance quite your typical relationship either. Before the story even starts, we’re provided with a long detailed cheat sheet about the hierarchy of the Heavens, which is nice and all, but it’s a bunch of information that’s hard to keep referring to from the middle of the book (especially on an ereader). Thankfully it’s fairly easy to get the gist of things from context.
The first chapter jumps around in the timeline, almost to the point that you’re disoriented, but that stops once Anazakia is informed about her family and needs to escape those that would hunt her. She runs with the aid of two demons, Vasily and Belphagor, and from the moment they arrive in the world of man, they all begin to realize how hard it would be to hide, but it’s not until their pursuers find them that they realize the severity of the deep shit they’re in. Things go from bad to worse as they get into trouble way over their heads. The ending isn’t quite what I expected and I think the word “complicated” is the best term to describe the final status of the characters’ romantic relationships.
There are time throughout the book when things are explained in painful detail, and others that are explained, but still left me confused. Last names and some of the places are so hard to pronounce I stopped trying to keep track because I couldn’t remember who was what anymore. Some of the jumps between languages (spending most of their Earth time in Russia, they jumped between demonic, angelic, Russian, and English throughout the book, among others I believe) was a little dizzying.
Regarding this next segment, I will say right now that I have enjoyed some dark fantasy before, and there are some books with tortured heroes that I love, and I like the tortured hero (and heroine) here too, but this book had some really dark moments. That was the worst part for me. Some of the violence, and humiliation for that matter, in this story is graphic. It’s detailed and bloody, and there were times I almost couldn’t take it. There is another series I’m in the middle of at the moment that I’ve decided to put off indefinitely because of how dark it can sometimes get, so I guess my capacity for dark fantasy just isn’t what it used to be. That being said, the overall ending was gratifying and made me smile, making having thankfully made it through the rough spots worth it.
This is a tale that has an intense plot and compelling characters, but if often graphic and heartbreaking. Recommended!
Title:  Sharing Hailey
Series:  Lovers and Friends
Book #: 1
Author:  Samantha Ann King
Approximate Book Length:  242 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Explicit
Thoughts:
I’m jealous of Hailey. The guys were so sweet and their relationship with Hailey was just adorable. The love scenes were totally hot, especially a kiss in particular that left me wanting more. Hailey was very relatable, I felt for her in all aspects. Her journey was a hard one, but very good. The climax was dramatic, but quick (which I appreciate – things don’t need to be dragged out to still make an impact).
Not counting the ex-boyfriend part, this was honestly a fun book; the new relationship budding between Mark, Tony, and Hailey, and keeping it from her brother (or trying to). Meredith’s role was also entertaining. What it comes down to is that I really just adored all the characters. I can’t wait to see more of them!
Bottom Line:
Sharing Hailey is a page turner that will keep you coming back for more. It’s fun, exciting, and hot. Definitely give this one a read!
NEW RELEASE: Extreme Measures by Elisabeth Naughton
Extreme Measures
(Aegis Security #1)
By Elisabeth Naughton
Blurb:
Being prepared for any scenario is the trademark of any good CIA operative, and Eve Wolfe is one of the best. But when her latest mission literally explodes in her face, she wakes up labeled a traitor and—even more surprising—in the custody of elite Aegis Security operative and ex-lover Zane Archer. Although she still secretly has feelings for Zane, he’s now demanding the one thing that she can’t give him: the truth.
When he caught her breaking the rules years ago, Zane let Eve walk away without an explanation. Now someone has not only sabotaged Aegis but also turned an American city into a war zone, and all signs point to Eve. Zane needs answers that can come only from Eve’s still-tempting lips, and he finally has the elusive operative right where he wants her—at his mercy.
“I need to look at your shoulder again before you lay down,” she said at his back.
He didn't answer, just found the closest bedroom and pulled her inside. Closing the door with his boot, he tugged off his jacket and tossed it on a chair to his right, then did the same with his T-shirt and pulled her toward the bed.
“Impatient, aren't you?” she mumbled. He set the bag of supplies they’d picked up on the bed beside him while she shrugged out of her sweatshirt, dropped it on the ground, then began gently peeling away his bandages.
Zane closed his eyes and drew in a deep breath. “I’m a man, darlin’.  We’re always impatient.”
“I remember. This actually looks pretty good. I’m just going to change the dressing.”
He didn't want to think about what she remembered. He had enough memories pinging around in his brains for both of them—and most were the X-rated variety. He sat still while she removed the soaked bandages, added antibiotic ointment and covered the wound again. But his stomach clenched every time her soft fingers grazed his skin, and with every breath he drew, a whiff of that sweet peach scent bombarded him, amping his awareness and sending blood straight to his groin.
“There,” she said, placing the last piece of tape over the wound. “Now you just need to take these before you pass out and you should be good.” She handed him two pills from the bottle they’d picked up at the pet store and stepped away.
He snagged her by the wrist. “Where do you think you’re going?”
“To get you a glass of water.”
“No water.” He popped the pills in his mouth and dry swallowed them.
There was just enough light coming through the window to see her exasperated expression. “Wow. What a stud you are.”
He ignored the sarcasm and patted the mattress beside him. “Get comfortable, sweetheart.”
She sighed. “Look, Archer. I—”
He jerked her toward him. A yelp slipped from her lips just before she fell into his body. Heat immediately enveloped him, but he quickly flipped her to her back, then climbed over her.
“Archer—”
Her warning was laced with just a touch of fear. Just enough to tell him he’d surprised her. And considering nothing seemed to surprise this woman, he was using that to his advantage.
He grasped both of her arms at the wrists and pinned them above her head. Pain ricocheted from his shoulder down his arm and back up again, but he ignored it. Just like he tried to ignore her trim hips locked between his knees and the way the light from the window spilled over her breasts and bare abdomen in that revealing top. “Here’s how this is going to work, sweetheart. I’m going to close my eyes for a few hours and you’re going to stay right here beside me where I know you can’t get into any trouble. Then, when I wake, I’ll call Carter and we can both be rid of each other for good.”
She pursed her lips and lifted her chin, a clear challenge glinting in her eyes. “I’d like to be rid of you right now.”
“Too bad. You’re stuck with me.” He lowered his weight onto hers, let go of one arm and cinched the zip tie hidden in his hand around her wrist.
“Archer… What the hell?”
Zane looped the second zip tie through hers, tightened it around his own wrist, then rolled off her onto his back and drew in a deep breath.
“Oh, my God.” She sat upright. “You did not just do that. Where the fuck did you get more zip ties?”
He yanked on her arm until his lowered back to the bed. “I stole them. You’re not the only one who can filch goods unnoticed, beautiful.” He relaxed back into the pillows and closed his eyes. “Now lie down.”
“You are so gonna pay for this.”
He didn't need to see the smoke pumping from her ears to know it was there. He could hear it in her voice and feel it in the heat radiating from her skin. A wry smile curled his lips. “I figure I’m already doing time in purgatory, thanks to you. A few more years won’t kill me.”
“And to think,” Eve snapped as she flopped back onto the bed, “I was actually worried about you.”
Zane’s humor faded. “We both know you weren't worried. You were just biding your time until you could run. I’m not a stupid southern hick, sweetheart. Now shut up so I can get some sleep.”
“Don’t mind me,” she muttered, crossing her arms over her chest and dragging his hand with her. “I’ll just be sitting here plotting all the ways I can murder you in your sleep.”
He chuckled. Now that was the feisty brunette he remembered. “Just do it quietly. I’m beat.”
She let out a long, frustrated sigh, but the sound didn't irritate Zane like it should, instead it relaxed him. And man, either he was seriously losing it or all those drugs had finally fried his gray matter. Because lying next to his archenemy, feeling her heat and smelling her soft, arousing scent, he suddenly wasn't focused on revenge. Losing himself in all her softness sounded a hell of a lot better. And more fun. And, holy hell, way more fucking erotic.
He just wasn't sure what to do about it.
