For the Love of Mythology Giveaway Hop!

Big thanks to Book Lovers Hideaway for hosting this giveaway hop! Close Encounters of the Night Kind and I are helping out, but it was BLH that did the most work!

So this blog hop is all about Mythology and why we all love it. Whether it be Greek, Roman, Egyptian, etc., it just captivates us. My favorite has always been Greek Mythology. I used to be a big Xena: Warrior Princess fan, and I still think of the Greek gods as those characters to this day. I haven't read too many books with a mythology theme, but the few I have were interesting and fun even if they weren't my favorite stories.

My very favorite mythology related series however is the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series by Rick Riordan. It is because of that fact that my giveaway for this hop will be the largest one I've done to date. I'm giving away a brand new copy of the entire set in paperback! Click here to see it on Amazon.

BLOG TOUR: Bella Key by Scarlet Chastain

Scarlet Chastain has just released her debut story Bella Key, and she's here today talking about being a F/F erotic romance author. Welcome!!

*****************************

Thank you for having me on Buffy’s Ramblings, BK!

Now that my debut f/f erotic romance is published, one of the most asked question I receive is why f/f?

The female/female dynamic intrigues me. Let’s face it, women are complex creatures! Men are at an extreme disadvantage at knowing which buttons to push. Women on the other hand, don’t need a manual. They know what their female partners want because they want the same thing.

I love writing emotions into my love scenes. The emotional level is kicked up to overdrive when both players are women because we need an emotional connection to feel aroused.

Bella Key is a story of one woman quest for happiness that happens to end in the arms of another woman. It’s a love story first, a lesbian story second.

Maddie and Sunny’s sexy story released May 3rd and my girls are already receiving a lot of buzz...

Harlie’s Books gave it a “Recommended Read”: “I can not tell you how much I loved Maddie and Sunny’s story. Well written, sensual and sweet.”

Love Books! said: “This taste of the ongoing party-like atmosphere of the Keys is making me want to take a vacation. I felt like I was about to step on the beach while reading. The romance between Sunny and Maddie was a joy to experience. I was rooting for them.”

5 Stars from Tattooed Book Review: Chastain does a beautiful job of creating the chemistry between two women. There’s an easy friendship and connection, tinged with plenty of sexual longing and desire. It isn’t long before Maddie and Sunny act on their growing feelings for one another, resulting in beautifully written, sensual and passionate love scenes.

Enjoy a little taste...

~EXCERPT~

Sunny walked toward the slim form sitting on a bench facing the water. The reds and oranges of the sunset played off Maddie’s golden hair. Sunny’s fingers itched to smooth a wisp of hair blowing in the early evening breeze. An overwhelming feeling of desire to wrap her arms around the woman, guide her head to her shoulder and stroke her hair while she whispered ‘everything will work out’ ran through her head.

“It’s stunning, isn’t it?” She nodded at the horizon when Maddie looked up. “I never get tired of watching Key West sunsets. Each one is different. I come down here a lot to think, or when I have a decision to make. There’s something about the sunset that puts things into perspective.” Sunny stared at the glowing orange sun disappearing into the wide expanse of sea. “Here, I brought you some more of the sweet tea you liked earlier.”

Maddie took the glass from her, and the brush of her fingertips along the back of Sunny’s hand sent her nerve endings on overdrive. Sunny leaned on the back of the bench, supporting her weight with arms. “I spent much time down here dealing with the same situation. My guy’s name was Emilio.”

Maddie’s head cocked to the side. “Emilio? I thought you were—”

“A lesbian?” Sunny snorted. “I don’t really think of it as liking one sex versus another. I’m attracted to the person, you know, what’s inside. But, yes, since Emilio I’ve only been with women. Leaving him was hard. We met in college and he wanted to get married after graduation. Asked my parents and everything.” Sunny chuckled, remembering the disappointment reflected in her mother’s eyes when she told her they’d broken up.

Maddie turned and put her feet on the seat of the bench, drawing her knees to her chest. “What happened?”

“I’ll tell you what didn’t happen, chica. The world didn’t end. Emilio found someone else and is happily married with a couple of kids. My mother not only got over the fact that l broke up with Emilio, but she accepts the fact that my goals in life aren’t the same as hers. You see, those who really care about you just want to see you happy. What you need to figure out is what makes you happy.”

Bella Key

Maddie Jacobs must be crazy. At least that’s what her mother thinks. Professionally, she’s confident and secure; personally, she’s a hot mess. Not even a marriage proposal from a man who adores her can quell her search for something more.

In need of an escape, Maddie flees to Key West’s most southern island, Bella Key, to rest and recharge at Casa Bonita. She almost gives up on weekend retreat when the Bed & Breakfast is closed for repairs until Sunny Rojas, the inn owner, extends an offer of friendship, sweet tea and a room. Still reeling from a breakup with her longtime partner, Sunny is thankful for the diversion from her own broken heart.

The arrival of a fierce storm forces the women’s emotional journey to a head and leads them into each other’s arms. But can Maddie throw her hangups to the wind and go with her heart? The magic of Bella Key teaches her that passion cannot be placed neatly into boxes labeled right and wrong, because love knows no boundaries.

Title:  Bella Key
Series:  Romance on the Go
Book #: N/A
Author:  Scarlet Chastain
Approximate Book Length:  42 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Moderate

Thoughts:

This was really fun. The friendship and chemistry between Maddie and Sunny is adorable and even the secondary character Jules was just a hoot. Besides the characters, the writing alone was great with a wonderful balance of storyline to romance. It’s a short read, and yet we still get a sense of who the characters are, what they’re about, and feel the sparks blossom between our two leading ladies.

I will say I would have liked to see a little more of the closure on a few things in Maddie’s life that are addressed as well as gotten to know a little more about Sunny’s history since we focus mostly on Maddie throughout the story. That being said, the entire book is compelling and endearing.

Bottom Line:

Bella Key is a sweet and sensual romance about accepting one’s self and living one’s own life instead of fitting into some mold. It’s a read that will have you wanting to take a Florida vacation to the Keys!

BLOG TOUR: Possession by Jennifer Lyon

Thanks to Book Monster Promotions for hosting this blog tour. I'm sharing my review of Possession in addition to my review of The Proposition which is book 1 in The Plus One Chonicles by Jennifer Lyon. Happy reading!

*****************************

Savagely sexy billionaire Sloane Michaels ruthlessly controls his life and everything in it. Even his sex partners are carefully negotiated plus-one arrangements, including his latest, the fiery bakery owner, Kat Thayne. But Sloane’s control is challenged when his mentor becomes seriously ill, and his need for Kat, his need to possess her at all costs, rivals only his single-minded goal of vengeance for the murder of his sister. After surviving an attack six years ago, Kat Thayne escaped her fears in the protective world of her beloved bakery. Then Sloane Michaels storms into her life, making her feel beautiful, strong and sexy. Yet as Kat pushes her boundaries and uncovers a dangerous secret in her past, Sloane’s controlling side emerges. Worried that Sloane will possess her mind, body and soul, Kat fights to keep her hard won independence. But just as Sloane demands her complete surrender, she discovers he has a dark side that could destroy them both.

Book #: 2

Approximate Book Length:  211 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Explicit

Thoughts:

First off, this book does not have the ability to stand alone. It’s absolutely a book 2, picking up a couple days after book 1 leaves off. I was happy about that because of the way the first one ended – abruptly. This one is longer so we get more development between the couple and in the dramas of their lives.

As with the first, Sloane and Kat’s chemistry is awesome. I really loved them together. They make a lot of progress in this story as a pair and it sucks you in and gets you invested in their emotions, only to have them constantly remind themselves that what they have is only temporary and casual, despite what they occasionally admit. Kat’s inner strength and personal growth is so endearing it’s hard to put into words, but I will say that Sloane is just plain beautifully flawed. I want to root for him, but it’s so hard when he’s so stubborn in not even being willing to strive for something more than he thought possible. I get it, I do, but man it’s just heartbreaking.

Bottom Line:

Even better than the first with progress and development on all fronts, Possession will have you glued to the page. However, be prepared for another ending that leaves you hanging and waiting anxiously for the conclusion.

Thoughts:

This book starts off with some heart pounding moments. It draws you in and gets you utterly intrigued. As things progress, both characters are compelling, but I really feel that it’s Kat that really gets you connected. Though I have to admit, I was completely enamored with Sloane right from the start, and while I want to see Kat grow, I would love to see him NOT get something he wants!

They made this agreement and I honestly hate it. While I understand it and it’s mutually beneficial in more ways than one, I just hate that they keep things so “casual”. That being said, he treated her as more than casual and the more protective he got, the more endeared I was to him.

I liked this book and am very intrigued to read more, but the way it was ended really bothered me. It felt like the story was just cut off part way through leaving it horribly incomplete. There’s a cliffhanger ending, there’s “open-ended”, and then there’s just…this. Was I left wanting more? Yes, but not in a passionate “I can’t wait for the next installment” kind of way. I was just plain frustrated. With all the buildup of mystery and sexual tension, I just would have appreciated a more definitive close to this book even with another book coming in the series.

Bottom Line:

This is a story of strength and personal growth as well as great chemistry. Good start to a series, but be prepared to need book 2 immediately upon finishing!

I have a bad habit of creating series. I love to read them, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I keep writing them. *grin* Last week I released my very first Indie title, a short story set in a universe called HOWL. This universe will be in the spirit of Felicity Heaton’s Vampire Realms, with lots of different characters, book lengths, and storylines. I hope you’ll enjoy my take on werewolf soul mates in this first installment, MARKED.

Five years ago she ran. . .

Kayla is back where she belongs: in Jack’s arms. But after the initial explosion of pent up longing and need have passed, she has to convince him to complete the bond between them.

Ingrained fears sent her running, but the need for her mate and the love she’s denied has brought her back. To be Marked will join their souls together forever, a bond Kayla can no longer live without.

An Alpha wolf, Jack waited for Kayla to return to him and protected her from afar. When he senses her outside his home, he isn’t beyond setting a trap meant to entice her back.

Once he has her, he has to show her it isn’t just her heart he needs.

He needs her trust and with it, her submission.

Whew! This is a really sexy and compelling read. It’s short, so it’s hard to say too much without giving things away. The chemistry between Kayla and Jack is sizzling and I love that he pushes her boundaries. There’s a touch of BDSM in there, but nothing remotely hardcore.

Despite its length, the world building is pretty good, enough to understand what’s going on, but definitely leaves you wanting more. The character development was also surprisingly good for such a short book. It made the characters so endearing!

Bottom Line:

A short read that will leave you wanting more, Marked is intriguing and exciting with a sexy factor that leave you satisfied!

BLOG TOUR: Knowing His Secret by KC Falls

Thanks to Book Trailer Showcase for hosting this blog tour. I'm sharing a little bit about Knowing His Secret by KC Falls. Happy reading!

*****************************

He looked like the kind of man even my mother would call smokin' hot. Eventually, she did.

He felt like the kind of man who didn't just break the rules, but made new ones. He led and it was follow or get out of the way.

Why did a billionaire with a voice like liquid silk and a face like a bad angel take a second look at a girl in no-name jeans, with a fifteen-dollar haircut and a beat up car she calls her "Eep" because the 'J' fell off long ago?

I didn't want to know why and when I thought I knew I didn't want to admit it. By the time I found his secret, it was already too late. His passion had me hooked like a drug. It didn't hurt that he pulled the people I love the most out of harm's way. A girl can get used to a knight in shining armor even when the armor has some very large dents in it.

This is part one of a series. Part 2 of the Year of the Billionaire is "Taking His Risk" and is available now on Kindle. Part 3 of Year of the Billionaire is "Keeping His Promise" and is also available exclusively on Amazon. These are adult romance intended only for readers over 18 due to explicit sexual content.

~EXCERPT~

"Welcome to Brian's loft o' porn," Tristan greeted me. He was leaning back against a pile of pillows and patted the carpet beside him, inviting me to sit down. "In this room, there is a library of smut so vast that it would take more than a lifetime to view it all."

"Oh? Really?" What could I say to that?

"He's a collector. Little men often have issues, you know."

"What about big men? Do big men have issues?"

"None worth discussing tonight."

Tristan pulled my face toward his and claimed my mouth with a crushing kiss. There was an element of something dark in the way he took me into his arms. He held me hard against him and breathed into my hair. "It's time now, Raina. I want to fuck you now . . . here."

"Tristan, I think there are things we need to talk about first."

He pulled me on top of him and roughly positioned me so that I couldn't help but feel his erection against my groin. My traitorous body reacted immediately.

"Raina, there's only one kind of communication I'm interested in tonight. If that's not why you came up here, maybe we should go downstairs for some milk and cookies with the rest of the children." There was an edge to his words. It was the same edge I had heard from the stage when I corrected him. It was the hiss that I had heard when he held my face in his at practice that first night when I went back to his house.

If I backed away I'd probably never know what it was like to have Tristan King's cock inside me. He made it clear that it was going to be his way or not at all. I wasn't going to get any answers 'before'. The only kind of knowledge I had to look forward to at that moment was the carnal kind.

His eyes had narrowed slightly and his nostrils flared. He wasn't going to try to convince me. He had made it a challenge. It was my choice, but the stakes were high. I leaned down toward his face as if I was going to kiss him. Instead I put my mouth very close to his ear and ground my pelvis into his.

"No cookies . . . just milk," I whispered.

A powerful vampire lost deep in his bloodlust, Snow is a savage animal, mindless with rage and a thirst for violence, and trapped with no hope of awakening from an endless nightmare… until a song draws him up from the abyss, restoring his sanity but leaving him haunted by the sweet feminine scent of lilies and snow, and fragmented familiar lyrics.

When the mysterious and beautiful songstress reappears in Snow’s room at Vampirerotique, she awakens a fierce protective streak and stirs dark desires that drive him to claim her as his female, even when he knows his touch will destroy her innocence.

A single forbidden taste is all it takes to unleash emotions in Aurora that she shouldn’t possess, tearing her between duty and desire, and luring her into surrendering to her wildfire passion and embracing hungers that burn so hotly they threaten to consume them both.

One act of kindness can lead to one thousand acts of sin though, each a black mark against the bearer’s soul and another grain of sand that slips through an hourglass. The clock is ticking and time is almost up. Can beauty save the beast?

Pain. Blinding. Debilitating. Sickening. Pain.

It rocked every inch of him. Throbbed deep in his marrow. Lived inside him and refused to die, no matter how hard he struggled to contain and obliterate it.

There was peace too though, a strange sense of calm and warmth that felt as though it was trying to subdue the pain and drive it away. There was also a weird notion that he hadn’t been alone.

Snow’s head thumped the hardest, fiery lightning splintering across his skull and causing his eyes to ache. He opened them a sliver but the light pierced them, increasing his agony, and he screwed them shut again. He tried to rub the salt and grit from his eyes and grimaced when steel cuffs bit into his wrists, causing sharp lances to jab across them.

His ankles blazed too.

He managed to crack his eyes open enough that he could see his wrists. Shackled and scarred. Multiple lacerations. Dried and fresh blood.

Snow focused on them and his body, taking mental note of any injuries and how weak he felt, trying to gauge how long he had been chained to his bed. Possibly a few days. His senses came fully back online.

He wasn’t alone.

His gaze slid painfully down to the male sitting in the wooden chair beside him to his right.

Snow spoke but it came out as a gravelly rumble. He cleared his throat, realised it was sore, figured he had been screaming his head off as usual, and tried again.

“How long have you been in the room?” It took a lot of effort to get that many words out. He drew in a deep breath and it wheezed past his throat and rattled in his lungs. Snow changed his previous calculation to over a week without leaving his bed. He didn’t normally feel this refreshed after an extended period lost to his insanity though.

Perhaps he was wrong about how long he had been lost to his bloodlust. He might have screamed more than usual this time.

It would help if he could remember what had triggered his latest round of crazy.

“Not five minutes,” Antoine said, his voice a low steady rumble that spoke of fatigue. His brother looked like hell too, dishevelled and weary, and that made Snow look away.

Guilt gnawed at his heart. He had worried Antoine again. Hurt him.

“I sensed you calming and came to check on you, and found you sleeping soundly so I thought I would stay a while to keep you company.” Antoine raked his fingers through his thick brown hair. It was longer than usual. Definitely more than a week. More than two? “I did not mean to wake you.”

Snow frowned at his brother’s odd words.

“You did not wake me. I wasn’t sleeping… I mean… I was at least conscious.” Snow looked himself over, the pain in his eyes fading as they adjusted to him using them again. Clearly, he had missed something. He didn’t remember sleeping. He remembered the rage, the dark hunger for blood and violence, the insane craving to kill everyone who came near him but being unable to get free and satisfy that desire. He remembered feeling trapped in his body, caged by his bloodlust, unable to break its hold over him. He recalled coming around from bouts of unconsciousness to rage all over again too. He had been doing neither of those things prior to this moment. “I was asleep.”

Antoine nodded, a glimmer of hope and curiosity in his blue eyes, and rose to his feet. “And you are awake now. Very awake.”

Snow understood why he looked curious and what he was implying. His bloodlust had receded. Receded but not gone. Snow could feel it lurking within him. Something had driven it back but it was waiting to seize hold of him again. Something that had made him sleep too. He never slept before coming around from one of his attacks. He was always unconscious or came out of it while awake.

Antoine took some items from the ebony nightstand to Snow’s right. Cotton wool and antiseptic by the looks of things. His brother doused a wad of the white padding and moved to Snow’s feet, and began cleaning the blood from his ankles.

He looked at his younger brother and frowned, unable to shake the feeling that he hadn’t been alone, and it hadn’t been Antoine’s presence he had felt.

“No one was in here with you?” he said and Antoine shook his head, came up beside him and began cleaning his neck and shoulders. “You did not hear anyone singing?”

“No.” Antoine’s expression darkened, as though the thought of someone being in here with him disturbed him. Had he been that far gone that Antoine had wanted to keep everyone away from him? Someone must have come regardless. He sniffed and smelled Antoine and Sera, and lily of the valley mixed with snow. No one at the theatre smelled that way. “Perhaps you were dreaming?”

Snow hoped his brother was right, but the sense that someone had been here with him plagued him, together with the song. It had been familiar. His brow crinkled as he struggled to remember it, the tune and lyrics drifting towards the surface of his mind only to slip through his grasp and disappear again, teasing him.

He growled. “Someone was singing… I swear it, Brother.”

Antoine moved to sit on the bed beside him and gave him a sympathetic smile. “Do not push yourself. Will you take a little blood?”

Snow forced himself to nod. He wasn’t hungry but it would ease Antoine’s mind and help Snow maintain his current mental state. It would also take his mind off the feelings he couldn’t shake. Maybe Antoine was right and he had been dreaming. He had long ago made it a habit to forget his dreams upon waking, because he never saw anything good in them. His dreams were where the past waited to punish him.

Seeing his brother every night and knowing what he had done to him all those years ago was punishment enough for his sins.

Antoine left the bed and walked around the foot of it to the cluttered black dressing table on the left side of the room, opposite the door, his bare feet silent on the wooden floor. He picked up the small metal canister there, unscrewed the cap and brought it to his nose. He sniffed, smiled, and picked up a glass and returned to Snow, settling on the bed beside him again.

Antoine poured some blood into the glass and held it out to Snow.

Snow reluctantly nodded, closed his eyes and opened his mouth. He hated cold blood, but it was all he had known for centuries now. He could no longer remember what fresh blood straight from the vein tasted like.

Antoine carefully brought the glass to his lips and tipped it, allowing a steady flow of it to enter Snow’s mouth. He swallowed it down and grimaced, suppressing a shudder as it chilled his throat. Disgusting.

It did what he needed it to though. The moment it reached his stomach, his body began to absorb it, using it to restore some of his strength. With his returning strength came memories that had eluded him. The black empty stage of Vampirerotique bathed in blood and entrails. An unfamiliar female and a child. Payne defending them. Males attacking his brother.

His brother’s blood spilling.

Snow growled and bucked against the restraints, the image of Antoine bleeding from wounds across his chest driving his bloodlust back to the surface. He ground his teeth as his fangs elongated, filling his mouth, and threw his head back and roared.

“Snow!” Antoine pressed his palm against Snow’s forehead and pushed his head down onto the black pillows, effectively restraining him. “Look at me, Brother.”

Snow rolled his eyes open and sought Antoine. Antoine knelt over him, concern shining in his pale blue eyes.

“I am well. See for yourself.”

Snow dropped his eyes to his brother’s chest. No blood marred the dark material of his shirt. No wounds. Antoine had already healed. Snow breathed slowly to calm himself and kept his eyes locked on his brother. He was well. Not bleeding. Not hurt.

Not dying because of him.

“Brother,” Snow said and Antoine frowned at him. He ached to be free of his bonds so he could take Antoine into his arms and hold him. He needed to reassure himself that his brother was unharmed, alive and with him. He longed to feel that he did have the power to break the hold of his bloodlust even when he feared that he didn’t. All he could do was ask though. “Your injuries are healed?”

Antoine’s dark eyebrows knitted into a confused line.

“It is a simple question. How are you feeling?” Snow tried again, needing an answer this time, afraid that if Antoine didn’t reassure him, he would lose his mind again and the bloodlust would claim him.

Antoine released his forehead only to stroke it. “Are you feeling alright?”

Snow frowned at that. He had asked the same damn thing and Antoine hadn’t answered. Was Antoine still injured? Had he not healed?

“I am fine… but your injuries… tell me you have healed, Brother.” Snow tried to touch him and the cuffs sliced into his wrists again. He winced at the fleeting stab of pain. Antoine took some more cotton wool from the black nightstand and cleaned the blood off his wrists for him, and then cast him a worried glance. “What is it?”

Antoine sat back on the bed and Snow could sense his concern and frustration. He lobbed the bloodied cotton wool into the bin near the nightstand, drawing Snow’s attention to how full it was. Some had fallen out, littering his wooden floor. How long had he been lost to bloodlust?

“Antoine. Answer me.”

His younger brother’s expression grew even more concerned. “I do not understand a word you are saying, Snow, and you are beginning to scare me.”

Snow frowned now and thought about the words that had left his lips. They had seemed normal to him.

“I never learned the language of our family’s homeland.” Antoine refilled the glass with blood and rested it on his knee.

Snow stared at him, struggling to take in what he had said. He had been speaking the old language?

His eyes shot wide and he tried to sit up, only to have the cuffs around his wrists jerk him back against the pillows. Antoine hastily set the glass down on the nightstand and grabbed his shoulders, his fear flowing over Snow. Evidently, he thought Snow was having a relapse.

For once, it wasn’t the case.

“The prince and… homeland. Prince.” Snow knew he wasn’t making any sense and it wasn’t because he was speaking the old language this time. He was speaking English. The look in his brother’s eyes as they darted between his and the glass of blood said he definitely thought the blood had had a negative effect on him, driving him back to insanity.

“Are you okay, Snow?” Antoine moved his hands to Snow’s face, cupping both of his cheeks.

“Not crazy for a change,” he snarled and instantly regretted it when Antoine released him and picked up the glass. “Prince. The song. Winter skies. Snow.”

Antoine lifted the glass to Snow’s lips. “Drink a little more. You need to sleep. Do you feel you can sleep?”

What he wanted to do was slap his brother into the next century and get him to listen, but any act of violence right now would have Antoine calling in Javier and restraining him until he forced blood down his throat and possibly stuck him with a lion-sized dose of sedative.

Snow didn’t have good memories of the last time they had tried that one. He had hallucinated for days about all manner of weird creatures and demons jumbled in with flashbacks of his past, hadn’t slept at all, and had come out of it worse than before they had tried to tranquilize him.

“I will try,” Snow said and allowed Antoine to pour a little more blood into his mouth. It was cold on his tongue and he swallowed it quickly. A sense of calm returned as it flowed into him, making him sleepy. “Prince. Snow. Winter skies.”

It swam around his head, the melody haunting him and chasing sleep away.

“I am sure it will come to you, Brother.” Antoine set the glass down again and sat beside him, his closeness comforting Snow and easing him. “Do not push yourself.”

“Stay a while,” Snow mumbled, struggling to keep his eyes open. He didn’t want to be alone. “Will you?”

“Of course,” Antoine said.

Sleep tried to overcome Snow but he fought it, not wanting to waste this precious time with his brother. He didn’t know when the bloodlust would win and grip him again, and right now he feared next time it wouldn’t let go. Right now, he wanted to be normal again.

“How long was I out?” he whispered and blinked rapidly, trying to keep sleep at bay a little longer. He should have refused the blood. It always made him sleepy when he was recovering. “You look like shit.”

Antoine smiled but it didn’t lift the darkness from under his eyes. “It was over three weeks ago that Chica took you down.”

Twenty-one days. It scared the hell out of Snow.

Antoine’s voice was hoarse, strained as he spoke. “I thought I had lost you this time.”

Tears rose into Snow’s eyes, mirrored in Antoine’s, and he fought to stop them from falling. He didn’t know what to tell his brother. He wanted to tell him that if he had known that he had been scaring him, he would have battled his bloodlust and overcome it to take away his fear and his pain, but it would be a lie. How many times had he lied to his brother?

Too many times, and always about the same thing.

He had promised Antoine that he would fight and he would live, and he would never succumb to the temptation death presented.

It was becoming impossible to keep that promise.

“I am back now,” Snow said, voice thick with emotions that felt more like a burden each day longer that he lived.

Snow wished he could offer his brother more comfort. He wasn’t sure if he would come back from the next bout of bloodlust. He was surprised he had come back from this one. He glanced at his wrists again. The blood on them had been fresh when he had woken, no more than an hour old, yet all the cuts had been nothing but scars.

Snow fell quiet, allowing Antoine to talk to him, his mind elsewhere. The healed cuts and the sleep. The sanity. Someone had been with him and whoever they were, they knew how to calm him.

They had sung to him in the old language.

That was why he had spoken it to Antoine.

Snow couldn’t recall the last time he had spoken it before today. It had been centuries or possibly more. Had he spoken it since Antoine was born? He didn’t think he had.

It hadn’t been a dream.

Someone had been here in this room with him.

A female who smelled of lily of the valley and snow.

A woman who had sung in the language of his homeland.

A song for a prince and an angel.

An Author’s Inspiration

I have had many people ask me what inspired me to become a writer. What was it that after years of saying I wanted to write, of threatening to dabble with a few pages here or there because it sounded like fun, actually got me to put pen to paper and complete a story before I ever realized what I’d undertaken?

The main characters: Caleb and Olivia.

I saw the ending to their story so clearly, and that made me want to get to know them better, both individually and as a couple. What circumstances got them to that ending? As I began to answer that question in bits and pieces, I truly began to see a couple that fascinated me, and in that I found my inspiration. They became a couple I would want to know in real life. Actually, they were a couple that I wanted to be a fly on the wall and witness their love as it happened . . . which is exactly what we get to do as readers.

Caleb and Olivia are opposites. As a writer I’m not a big fan of writing characters who are similar to one another. The tug and pull between men and women is what makes good romances work. Caleb, though a kind soul, can be fierce and rough around the edges. He works hard to control the dark half of himself that is capable of great violence and pain. Olivia is soft, musically gifted and can be na├»ve on many things. But she is tough when she needs to be and understands Caleb in a way few do, mostly because she has broken down his barriers which allow her in. Through her, he can see a future he never dared dream for himself. He has found something to fight for. Olivia is the first real thing he’s wanted since becoming a vampire.

These characters inspired me. They inspired me to become an author and are people I would want to know. I hope you will check out my Charmed Trilogy and become as fascinated by them as I have.

The charmed The Charmed Trilogy, Book 1

“This has to be a dream. This has to be a dream. This has to be a dream.”

Olivia Ann Greyson sees only one future for herself – to compose and perform the music she has loved since she was a child. But that future changes in an instant when a commuter train taking her to the city crashes and is attacked by, unbelievably, a coven of vampires! As the rabid creatures feed their thirst on the surviving passengers, Olivia is spared from an unthinkable fate because of the intervention of another vampire – Caleb Wolfe, a figure from her past who, for reasons he doesn’t understand himself, would do anything to protect her.

After one familiar touch, Olivia recognizes the man behind the vampire. Soon love and a powerful supernatural connection begins to grow between them. But with that connection Olivia starts to notice startling changes happening within herself, and violent events make it clear that the vampire coven which wanted her the night of the train crash won’t stop until they have her.

Time is running out for Olivia and Caleb to discover why all this is happening. And the answers they find may painfully tear their new found love apart.

The charmed Souls The Charmed Trilogy, Book 2

“It was the blood! The blood was somehow doing this to me!”

Olivia Ann Greyson is a Charmer, a Dhampir with the power to lure the supernatural world’s most dangerous of creatures – and she’s in an impossible situation. She must leave behind Caleb Wolfe, the strong, protective vampire she has fallen madly in love with, in order to learn how to protect herself from the vampires, shifters and demons that will be drawn to her for the rest of her life.

Human Guardian, Alec Lambert, has been assigned to see to Olivia’s training by the organization he belongs to, which is known simply as The Brethren. He takes Olivia to the group’s stronghold in the mountainous regions of Alberta, Canada, where she discovers the answers to her family’s painful past and the extent to which those hunting her will go to capture her. But she also uncovers many secrets and even more questions about this mysterious group she has trusted to protect her – secrets that will have her fighting to get back to the man she left behind.

. . . but will it be too late?

The charmed Fates The Charmed Trilogy, Book 3

“You think you know him better than I do? Interesting . . . and so boringly human.”

Over a year has passed since Olivia Ann Greyson discovered that she is a Charmer, a Dhampir fated to be part of the violent supernatural world that surrounds our human one. In that time, she has strengthened herself physically, learned of her family’s secret past, and found a deep and abiding love with the strongest man she has ever met, Daywalker Caleb Wolfe. But Olivia’s biggest challenge still lies ahead of her . . .

Dark vampire lord Luther Davin has been obsessed with capturing Olivia so he can use her special gifts for his own reasons. As Caleb and Olivia try to make a new life together with their coven, the Nightwalker’s attempts to capture her only intensify and inadvertently bring an unwelcome visitor from Caleb’s past barging back into his life.

She is Caelestis—Celeste to the modern world—and she claims to be Caleb’s first and rightful mate. Although Olivia has grown confident and secure in her relationship with Caleb, she soon realizes that Celeste sees herself as no less than a goddess among mere mortals and will stop at nothing to get Caleb back—which means Olivia herself must die!

When these two threats collide and fate steps in to pull Olivia away from her new family, will she be ready for her darkest hour and her greatest battle?

BLOG TOUR: In Flames by Jessica Jayne

Thanks to Bewitching Book Tours for hosting this blog tour. Welcome back to the blog Jessica Jayne with her new story In Flames. Who doesn't love a sexy firefighter? ;D Happy reading!

*****************************

In Flames (In Pinterest-Style)

I’d like to take a moment to thank Buffy Kennedy for hosting me again on her Buffy’s Ramblings blog! She’s awesome! Back in April, she was kind enough to host me and my first book, More Than Friends, as part of my first ever book blog tour. And now, I’m back with my latest release from Evernight Publishing entitled In Flames. This time around, I thought I’d do a “Pinterest” type board to introduce everyone to Matt and Gracelyn and their story. Most of the time when I write a story, I find pictures that sort of inspire me in the writing journey. I fell in love with Gracelyn and Matt and their story. I hope you do too!

Matt Riley is a firefighter (and a hunk). The women of Mason Ridge adore Matt.

Gracelyn Riley is a long locked brunette, who works at the courthouse as a paralegal.

Matt’s pre-teen son, Brian. Brian lives with his mother, but spends every other weekend with his father.

Gracelyn’s kids, Jenna (8) & Josh (6)

Gracelyn’s husband, Chad, was killed while fighting a fire. He left behind Gracelyn and their two children.

Matt’s parents, Howard and Catheryn. Losing their oldest son was very difficult for them.

Matt’s sister, Sarah. She’s the baby of the Riley family. She adores her brother, Matt.

Falling for your brother’s widow has its problems. Gracelyn and Matt have many obstacles to overcome. Will they let guilt and scrutiny from those around them destroy their second chance at happiness?

Matt’s red F-150

Matt has a similar tattoo on his shoulder with his brother, Chad’s name in the middle. He got the tattoo shortly after his brother’s death. It’s a constant reminder of his sacrifice.

The passion between Matt & Gracelyn is intense and explosive. Despite the obstacles they face, they find it difficult to keep their hands off each other.

Brier Hill pub in Mason Ridge is where everyone hangs out.

Matt’s childhood home, where he, Sarah and Chad grew up. Matt’s parents still live in this house and the family gathers regularly here. It’s the heart of the Riley clan.

To stay in shape for his job as a firefighter and to burn off stress, Matt runs… a lot.

Matt & Gracelyn take a trip to Vegas

I hope these pictures help to give you some idea of what I was thinking when I created Gracelyn, Matt, the Rileys and Mason Ridge, Ohio. Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!
