BLOG TOUR: Dehumanized by Michael Loring

Thanks to Full Moon Bites Author Promotions for hosting this blog tour. I'm sharing my review of Michael Loring's Dehumanized today. Happy reading!

*****************************

Summary:

A deadly and currently incurable disease has been released as the result of an unknown experiment that went awry. Dubbed 'Lycanthropy' by the media due to its similarity to the horror movie genre depiction about werewolves, anyone infected begins to change, and every night of the full moon the 'beast' within is released. Within one year, lycanthropy spread throughout Europe, Asia and has now infected the USA. In an attempt to control and treat the outbreak, concerned governments have begun creating camps to contain those who are infected and to help find a cure. Despite rumors comparing these camps to the concentration camps of almost 70 years ago, the US government maintains these camps have the best interests of the public and the residents at heart. Expectations for a cure in the next year remain high.

Ryan Zachery lived his life the way all high school teenagers should - carefree, and oblivious to anything around him. He had an attractive girlfriend and hope for the future. One night when he was walking home he was attacked by an unknown assailer. He awoke in the hospital to learn he had been infected by lycanthropy, a disease he had heard about but had ignored.

Taken by armed guards and dragged away from his parents who did not understand what was happening, Ryan was thrown into a US camp made for those 'suffering' from lycanthropy. Treated like prisoners, he and other lycanthropes were abused by the guards and by their own kind. Scientists regularly performed experiments that promised to treat the disease, yet only caused pain. If Ryan or any of the other roommates acted up or demanded answers, they were thrown into solitary, nicknamed the 'dungeon', and ignored until they became docile once more.

But at the night of the full moon, the beast within him is freed. The beast hates the prison and Ryan. When an experimental procedure allows the beast and Ryan to communicate, the two enemies become unlikely allies who will stop at nothing to tear down the walls keeping them prisoner. With the beast's help, Ryan learns how to change at will. When even his own kind begin to fear him, he creates a plan to release all lycanthropes. They caged the beast, but now he will show them that he will never be dehumanized.

Title:  Dehumanized
Series:  N/A
Book #: N/A
Author:  Michael Loring
Approximate Book Length:  522 Pages

Thoughts:

This was a well written, riveting story! These days the somewhat cuddly werewolf is what's prominent in the genre, but this takes us back to the beast that comes out at the full moon and won't be controlled. There's lots of action, emotional investment, and strong character development.

It was a gritty story that holds you enthralled and includes love and friendship. My problems with it stem from the tragic circumstances revolving around the prison camp scanario being a little overblown sometimes, and really just how long this book is. It's pretty worth it, but still, very long and that gets daunting sometimes.

In Conclusion:

Dehumanized is a compelling story of learning about one's self and accepting one's new reality. With several plot elements to keep cross-genre readers happy, this is one not to be missed!

BOOK PROMO: Party Crasher by April Angel

HAPPY BELATED RELEASE DAY!
I've read several of April Angel's (aka Milly Taiden's) works and I've enjoyed them all, so I'm please to share a little about her latest release today. Happy reading!

She crashed his party and became his prize…

According to one annoying Drex Callum, Chris is a “nosy reporter.” And maybe she is. She’s heard of the super secretive event known as the Seduction Party, and she won’t be content until she finds a way in. The last thing she expects to find is that Drex is the host. She’ll never get an invitation from her nemesis—unless she finds a way to get one herself. And breaking into his house is nothing if it means getting the scoop. But what she gets instead is an eye-full of the man himself, half-naked and more than she’d ever dreamed he could be in all her teenage fantasies.

Drex has been fantasizing about Chris forever, and now that she’s a grown woman, he still has a hard time treating her like one. So when she shows up at the Seduction Party—on the auction chair!—he’s got no other choice but to teach that nosey woman a lesson. He never dreamed sex could be like this, with Chris in his room, tied to a bed, asking him for stuff that blows his mind…

But when things turn ugly, it becomes clear that someone wants the nosey reporter dead. And Drex will have his hands full trying to keep his prize safe…

~EXCERPT~

Chris held on to the window ledge and lifted one foot into the darkened room. She heaved her body over, landing on her ass in the process. A groan slipped from her lips, and she slapped a hand on her face. Crap. The last thing she needed was to call attention to her presence in Drex’s office.

Careful not to disturb anything, she walked over to his desk and started rummaging through drawers. Why the hell did she decide to become a reporter in the first place? Oh yeah, because she liked to be in people’s business was Drex’s usual snide response.

Something on the Seduction Party had to be in there somewhere. Wild drums beat in her chest. She tried to focus. She had to remain alone inside the room. She glanced quickly over her shoulder at the door. She was pissed to have to go to these lengths. Drex was a tight-lipped bastard, and she was reduced to snooping because he refused to invite her.

He knew she had been trying to write a story on the super private bash that took place once a year. Invitees were under strict restrictions and had to sign confidentiality waivers. Luckily, she’d overheard her brother, Cole, on the phone with Drex. The rat mentioned he’d gotten his invite and thanked Drex for sending it over. Her blood simmered with anger.

For months, she’d mentioned to both men how badly she’d been trying to get more info on the secretive party, but they’d done nothing to help. All she wanted was to get her hands on an invite, finally figure out what the heck the stupid Seduction Party was all about, and write her damn story.

It was no secret she and Drex didn’t see eye to eye, but he didn’t have to be so rude to her in his attempts to ward her off. When she’d asked, point blank, if he’d let her into the party, the jerk had shaken his head and said, quite empathically, no. Bastard. No matter—she’d get her own invite.

She went through every drawer until she hit a locked one. She smiled in wicked delight. Ha, as if that flimsy lock was going to deter her. In seconds the lock clicked open. Cautiously, she pulled the drawer by the handle and grinned. Jackpot.

A noise broke through her joy. Someone was outside the office. She curled her hand around the coveted black envelope and shoved it to the bottom of her crossbody bag. She threw the bag out the same window she’d crawled in and was about to jump when the door opened.

“Chris?”

Oh, hell. Frozen in place, she gripped the window ledge and looked longingly at the bag in the shrubs. Of all the people that might have walked in, why did it have to be Drex? Goose bumps broke across her skin and her frustration soared. She hated the effect his voice had on her body.

“Christine, I can see you quite clearly.”

She narrowed her eyes at the laughter in his voice. Taking a deep breath, she turned to look at him and almost fainted.

When the hell had he gotten that body? He was wet and in a towel. A tiny thing wrapped low around his hips. In stupefied shock, she watched his bronzed muscles flex as he took a step toward her. She widened her eyes and almost fell out the window trying to move away. She’d known him all her life, and there wasn’t one time she’d seen him look like…like that.

Stunned, dry mouthed, and getting hornier by the minute, she let her gaze roam over him. From the wet short spikes of his dark hair, to his wide hairless chest, down the eight-pack abs, and lower to the precarious towel that showed a hint of pubic hair, she visually devoured him. She gulped.

“Christine? Chris?” Worry was in his voice.

“Hmm?”

“You OK? You look kind of flushed.” He took another step toward her.

She tried her best to melt into the wall, but her body had other ideas. Under her tank top, her nipples pebbled to hard points. Her gaze darted up to his, and she saw something she’d never seen there before—lust. Panic swarmed her.

“I’m fine.” She took a step away from the window and him at the same time.

“What are you doing here? No one mentioned you were waiting to see me.” He lifted his brow.

It was hard to concentrate on what he was saying when so much of him was still on display. “I just…I just came by to see—” She swallowed and tried to remember what the hell she was supposed to say if she got caught.

“To see?” He prompted her with a smile. She figured he knew she was having a hard time but was thoroughly enjoying her discomfort.

Disgusted with her feminine parts, she sent all sexual thoughts to the deepest, darkest part of her brain. Her old crush on him had died a quick and silent death back in her teenage years.

“I came to ask if you’d decided to help me get my story.” Her voice sounded firm, and she squashed any notion of seeing what lay under the tiny towel.

He took a step closer and she one back. The back of her knees hit a sofa, and she fell back into the cushioned seat. His face was tense.

Her pulse jumped into a crazy gallop. Never had she seen him look so severe and, damn it, it turned her on.

“Why would I do that?” His voice deepened to a low rumble.

Something, very much like panic, pushed her to get away from him. Never one to fear, she got angry instead. “Look, I came to give you a second chance at helping me. You know I will get into that party, and when I do, I’m writing about every single thing I see there. This is your one chance to have some say on what I put down on paper.” She stood and walked toward the door of the office and then turned to face him. “So, what will it be?”

“I said no, and I meant no. That party is not the kind of thing you should be going to.”

“You hypocrite! You sent Cole an invite, and yet I can’t get one?”

He clenched his jaw. “Your brother is a grown man.”

“And what the hell am I? I’m not a little girl anymore. I know what I’m doing.” She grabbed the door handle and glared at him. “I’m going, whether you like it or not.”

He gripped her arm. Her eyes met his in an angry battle of wills.

“Don’t do anything you’ll regret, Chris.”

Unsettled by his touch, she shook her arm out of his hold. “Life’s too short for regrets.” She walked out and toward her car without a single look back.

BLOG TOUR: Omega by Susannah Sandlin

Thanks to Bewitching Book Tours for hosting this blog tour. I have Susannah Sandlin here talking about doing research for Omega. Welcome!

*****************************

How Stuff Works—Research in the Vampire World

Research is a part of any writing process, but you’d think that in an imaginary small Southern town that’s eventually to become the axis of a vampire civil war, research would be minimal.

But not so fast. The great thing about urban fantasy and paranormal romance—and my Penton Legacy series straddles the line between the two—is that it lies at the crossroads of reality and fantasy. So the sexy vampires and the women who tame them have to deal with some real issues.

Here are some things I learned along the way in writing the Penton Legacy series, the most recent of which is Omega:

--Army Underwear. Randa, the heroine of Omega is a former US soldier turned vampire while on active duty. She doesn’t like being a vampire and hasn’t done much to update her wardrobe since being turned, so she has a huge supply of Army-appropriate underwear. Turns out, women have to fold their panties in tiny little squares, so conservative white or tan “granny panties” are often used. My hero, Will, gets a lot of mileage out of Randa’s underwear.

--Acid Pens. Mirren, the hero of Absolution, is heavily tattooed, and he does many of them himself. Since vampires have super-healing, what could he use to tattoo himself that would actually scar and not heal? I finally decided on an acid pen, which is used to etch steel. Ouch!

--Blood coagulants. I’m not a doctor; I just write one in Redemption, and Krys is faced early-on with a patient who’s bleeding from a serious abdominal wound. After doing some research, I came upon a product called Celox, which comes in pouches and is used by military medics in the field. Since Krys is working in a small clinic in a town run by vampires, I figure they’d know about such products and have them on hand.

--Carts. So, there are my poor vampires in Omega, stuck in an underground shelter a few miles from the entrance. They need supplies, so how can they get them from the parking lot where they’re hiding their vehicles, all the way to the underground facility? A golf cart wouldn’t be able to haul enough. Meet the John Deere Gator—you’ve probably seen them in football games when a player gets hurt and the Gator comes zipping onto the field to haul him away. It works for hauling vampire supplies too.

--Effects of food on blood. Who knew my big bad vampire Mirren (one reviewer called him, appropriately, “a big, moody bastard”) missed being able to eat food? So my heroine in Absolution, Glory, does some research on what foods she can eat that would hang around in her bloodstream so he might be able to taste them. Just as one would suspect: fat and sugar and alcohol.

--Portable torches. In my vampire world, silver reduces vampire strength to that of a human. So in Absolution, Will has to get creative to get Mirren out of a cell with silver bars. I knew silver wasn’t a particularly strong metal and could be melted. Question was, how could it be melted quickly and in secret? The answer—the Mapp gas torch, small enough that Will could slip inside his father’s compound with it, melt a big-enough hole in the cell bars for Mirren to get through, and haul butt before dawn.

These are just a few examples of how much research really can go into that quick vampire read!

Susannah Sandlin is the author of paranormal romance set in the Deep South, where there are always things that go bump in the night. Omega - Book 3

The bloody war between the Vampire Tribunal and the defiant scathe of Penton, Alabama, rages on, forcing its residents and their bonded humans to retreat into the underground fortress of last resort: Omega. There, Will Ludlam is charged with the care of Penton's humans, though he longs to fight alongside his vampire brethren. He knows the risks: as the renegade son of the Tribunal's vicious leader, Will's capture could doom the resistance.

Yet he is determined to prove his worth to his adopted scathe, to his vengeful father and to former US Army officer Randa Thomas, his beautiful, reluctant partner. Randa has little faith that a former member of the vampire elite has what it takes to fight a war. But as their enemies descend upon Omega, Will's polished charm and Randa's guarded heart finally give way to the warrior within.

Fans of Susannah Sandlin's Penton Legacy are sure to devour this long-awaited third installment of the steamy paranormal series.

Absolution - Book 2

With the vampire world on the brink of civil war over the scarcity of untainted human blood, battle lines are being drawn between the once peaceful vampire and human enclave of Penton, Alabama, and the powerful Vampire Tribunal.

A Scottish gallowglass warrior turned vampire in the early 17th century, Mirren Kincaid once served the Tribunal as its most creative and ruthless executioner—a time when he was known as the Slayer. But when assigned a killing he found questionable, Mirren abandoned the Tribunal’s political machinations and disappeared—only to resurface two centuries later as the protector and second-in-command of Penton. Now the Tribunal wants him back on their side—or dead.

To break their rogue agent, they capture Glory Cummings, the descendant of a shaman, and send her to restore Mirren’s bloodthirsty nature. But instead of a monster, Glory sees a man burdened by the weight of his past. Could her magic touch—meant by the tribunal to bring out a violent killer—actually help Mirren break his bonds and discover the love he doesn’t believe he deserves?

It’s a town under siege, a powerful warrior in a battle with his past, and one woman who can make the earth move—literally—as the Penton Legacy continues.

Redemption - Book 1

Following a worldwide pandemic whose vaccine left human blood deadly to vampires, the vampire community is on the verge of starvation and panic. Some have fanned into rural areas, where the vaccine was less prevalent, and are taking unsuspecting humans as blood slaves. Others are simply starving, which for a vampire is worse than death—a raging hunger in a creature too weak to feed.

Immune to these struggles—at first—is Penton, a tiny community in rural Chambers County, Alabama, an abandoned cotton mill town that has been repopulated by charismatic vampire Aidan Murphy, his scathe of 50 vampires, and their willingly bonded humans. Aidan has recruited his people carefully, believing in a peaceful community where the humans are respected and the vampires retain a bit of their humanity.

But an unresolved family feud and the paranoia of the Vampire Tribunal descend on Penton in the form of Aidan’s brother, Owen Murphy. Owen has been issued a death warrant that can only be commuted if he destroys Penton—and Aidan, against whom he’s held a grudge since both were turned vampire in 17th-century Ireland. Owen begins a systematic attack on the town, first killing its doctor, then attacking one of Aidan’s own human familiars.

To protect his people, Aidan is forced to go against his principles and kidnap an unvaccinated human doctor—and finds himself falling in love for the first time since the death of his wife in Ireland centuries ago.

Dr. Krystal Harris, forced into a world she never knew existed, must face up to her own abusive past to learn if the feelings she’s developing for her kidnapper are real—or just a warped, supernatural kind of Stockholm Syndrome in which she’s allowing herself to become a victim yet again.

Susannah Sandlin’s REDEMPTION is the first in the Penton Legacy series. Book two, ABSOLUTION, will be out September 18, and book three, OMEGA, on December 18.

GUEST POST: RM Garcia

I have RM Garcia with me here today to share a bit about himself and his book, The Foundlings. Please help me give him a warm welcome!

*****************************

3 Questions with RM Garcia

1) Tell us about yourself and your background.
Well I was born and raised in New Jersey. My Family and I lived in and around the cities of Newark and Elizabeth. I have two siblings, and five step-siblings, so you can say I came from a large extended family. My childhood was split between the dreary streets of NJ and the Caribbean island paradise of Puerto Rico. At an early age I began writing stories and jotting down ideas. I’m an avid gamer and tabletop role-player, and these hobbies helped me learn how to chain together plots and characters. My best job ever was a nearby library branch. It didn’t pay much, but it didn’t matter to me, and I worked there all through high school. This is where my love of books grew. I discovered great authors like Piers Anthony, Orson Scott Card, and Anne Rice. It was at this job that the concept for the Foundlings was created, but it wasn’t until many years later that I dedicated the time to write out the story in full.

2) Why write about vampires?
When I was first asked that question I did pause for a moment. The initial response that came to mind was, well I like vampires, but that answer didn’t seem to completely express why I enjoy writing about them. So I sought within myself a better answer, why was I writing about vampires? Like most authors I had a story to tell, but why tell mine. Then it hit me.

As of late, the vampire genre has been inundated with low rate movies and equally bad books. There have been a few standouts like the Underworld series, as well as the surprising popularity of Twilight, which vampire fans either love or despise. So I felt that the genre was lacking a great new story to take us into the next decade, and thus The Foundlings came about into publication.

Some people are saying that vampires are over, but the same can be said about werewolves. I haven’t seen or read any decent stand alone werewolf stories, but I have not had time to pick up Anne Rice’s Wolf Gift, yet. I’ve noticed that Zombiemania is seeing a rise in popularity right now. Shows/comics like the Walking Dead and movies/books like Warm Bodies and World War Z and bound to keep the Z lovers content for quite some time. Just don’t underestimate the Vampire. They are just as eternal as zombies, but sexier, can be just as savage as werewolves, yet smarter and hold an appeal that cannot be matched by any other paranormal creature. In short why do I write about vampires? Well, they’re just cool.

3) What can a reader expect to find in the Foundlings?
Well the Foundlings at its core, is a love story. Two people who struggle against unimaginable odds to survive and keep their love alive. I credit Anime as one of my influences, so it that respects you will find heart pounding action sequences. Yet pay special attention as you read the story, because you might miss something, there are layers that get peeled away as you read. I have often said that the Foundlings is like a cross between the Lost Boys and the Da Vinci Code, and most readers would agree with that description. One last little tidbit before I head off. In the pages of the Foundlings, you will find the reason why vampires exist. Most vampire stories just skip over that and portray them as just cursed blood sucking beings, but not in the Foundlings. There is a reason why they exist, and it is pretty diabolical. Only way to find out is to grab a copy, or win one, so good luck.

REVIEW: The Foundlings by RM Garcia

Summary:

Donnie aimlessly drifted through the past year of his life, and often wondered if it was worth the effort to just keep trying. The events of the past year had left him near broken. That all changed the moment Abbie walked into his life. She was like an angel sent to lift up his soul from the darkness it now existed in. For a moment his future seemed brighter with her in his life, and he started to believe he could be happy. They never expected how much their lives would change once they are dragged into another world. A world of shadows which within exists a society hidden in plain sight; a world wroth with danger, where they aren’t welcomed at all. They are forced into this world of Vampires, where they find themselves little more than orphans, nothing more than Foundlings from the start. Donnie and Abbie now find their love and faith tested to their very limits, while someone or something else watches, waits and hopes.

Title:  The Foundlings
Series:  The Foundlings
Book #: 1
Author:  RM Garcia
Approximate Book Length:  396 Pages

Thoughts:

This was a different vampire book than I've read in a long time. I'm pretty vampired out, but this was still an enjoyable read. Vampires are returned to their primarily evil type of character, interesting liberties are taken with history and religion, and a very neat world of vampires is created with there being different clans and such.

The book took me a little while to get into, and it's a bit long, but once I got into it, it kept me interested throughout. The character development is good and the story itself is strong portraying core elements of love, revenge, power, sacrifice, and self realization. There are lots of surprises and twists which is always good (no one likes a predictable book), and while there are similarities to some other vampire stories, they're different enough to be kept exciting.

In Conclusion:

The Foundlings is a riveting story full of action, lore, and romance. If you're a fan of vampires and are looking for something fresh in the genre, don't miss out on this one!

About the Author
I'm a born and raised small town girl. I love fishing, camping, big and loud trucks, but don't let my boots fool ya, I can slip out of my boots and into a pair of heels in no time flat! I love books and movies and it seems that there is never enough time to read or watch them all. I bake and decorate cakes (in my free time) pffft what's that right?

My husband is my world. He has been my cheerleader as I strive to achieve my writing goals; he's helped pick me up and dust me off when I get rejected; he laughs with me, and more times than not he laughs AT me, and he lends a shoulder for me to cry on. He's my rock but more importantly he is my best friend. We have two beautiful sons, Dillyn (8) and Traben (2). They are my angels and by becoming an author I want to show them that their dreams can come true. I have something that not many people can brag about. I have my parents (both amazing God Fearing people married 31 years) and my AMAZING in-laws (married 44 years) these two couples are part of my inspiration. I am also fortunate to call my three younger brothers my best friends. I have a few close friends that have helped me come so far.

I value my relationships and treat them all like rare gems, because they are all special and unique in their own way. I love making people laugh, no matter what. Life is too short to be so serious all the time.

Writing has always been a dream of mine. It's been a comfort when I'm hurting and an outlet when I'm mad. It is my security blanket.

Fallen

Angelo searched for the one to save them for centuries. Never in his wildest dreams did he expect it to be a girl. From the beginning, he was drawn to her, but how could such a slip of a girl be the one to save mankind. He was supposed to train her and explain what she was, but how could he do his job and resist her at the same time? Could he put attractions aside and focus on his job and what he needed to do?

It was just supposed to be a fun night at their small town carnival, but a bizarre encounter with a mysterious fortune teller changed Erin's life forever.

Then there was the stranger, the man who she literally ran into. A beautiful stranger that wouldn't leave her thoughts and who suddenly haunted her dreams. Something about him pulled her to him, like an anchor sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Little did she know her life was about to change when he revealed to her that she wasn't exactly human, and that she was destined to fight the most powerful evil on earth.

Erin's life collided with Angelo's, and now they are both in for a ride as they fight for the world, and fight their attraction for one another.

***This book contains violence, adult content, and mild language.

Risen

Blaze and Angie were happy, or so she thought. There was a restlessness growing inside her that not even she could explain. How could she trust his love when she wasn't able to trust herself?

They thought the battle was finished when they sent Satan back to hell, so how could they have known another threat, larger than Satan himself, was looming on the horizon? This time the stakes are higher and the game much more deadly. Something is coming and it will shatter everything they have ever known. Can they stop it before it has Risen?

Final Redemption

With Lilith on the loose and their circle fractured, The Chosen are wandering around lost, broken, and confused. Their friendships are being tested as well as their trust in one another. They've lost one of their own, and now new questions keep surfacing as a bout of unusual occurrences take place. What they didn't expect was an evil worse than Lilith herself in the works. Come join the Nephilim on one last journey.

COVER REVEAL: Caged Heat by Milly Taiden

Bewitching Book Tours is hosting a cover reveal for Milly Taiden's Caged Heat, the sequel to Sharp Change in the Black Meadow Pack series. I'm here to share that cover and a couple character profiles with you. Happy Reading!

Caged Heat - Black Meadows Pack Book 2

After five years travelling through third world countries to teach impoverished children, Samira Suarez has returned home to Black Meadows. What Sam didn’t expect was to be instantly overwhelmed by the desire to be with the one man she’s wanted since she was a teen, Riel Karven.

Riel has been patiently waiting for Sam’s return. For five long years he’s backed off and watched her come and go. This is it. His mate is back, and he’s taking a stand.

Sam’s need for Ry grows to unimaginable proportions. It’s almost as if she were in heat. But she’s a human…isn’t she?

There’s more at stake than Sam and Ry’s future relationship when she inherits her grandmother’s estate. One of her many relatives wants her out of the way. It’s going to take all of Ry’s determination and help from his friends to keep her alive. And it’s going to take delving into her past to find out why a human is going into mating heat.

Sharp Change - Black Meadows Pack Book 1

Thoughts of Chase, the Alpha of the Black Meadows pack, made her heart torpedo in her chest and rockets go off in her stomach. The better-than-a-sundae delicious-looking man with golden brown skin, enough muscles he could share them with his friends and still have left over, turned her to a puddle of goo.

The man had so much sex appeal her girl parts were ready to lift a white flag in surrender just by looking at him, even thinking of him made her tongue wag. Looking at him was like viewing a shot of your favorite dessert and knowing you couldn’t get your hands on it.

About the Author
Milly Taiden was born in the prettiest part of the Caribbean known as the Dominican Republic. She grew up between New York, Florida and Massachusetts. Currently, she resides in New York City with her husband, bossy young son and their little dog Speedy.

She began writing when she learned to put words together and her first book consisted of two homeless dogs living in a park for her second grade English class. She didn’t win a prize, but she acquired a love for writing that never went away.

When she’s not working full-time, texting with her best friend Heidi in England, chastising her son for pulling the dog’s ears, shopping with her sister Jewel or watching scary movies with her husband, she can be found writing on her laptop. She’s addicted to shoe shopping, chocolate and Dunkin Donuts coffee. A major reader when she can get her hands on a good book, she loves reading all Mina Carter, Cynthia Eden, Cynthia Sax among others.

Very Inspiring Blogger Award!

Hey y'all. I'm very honored that Tara Lain named me a very inspiring blogger! Thank you so much!

I am to name 7 things about myself and then nominate 15 other bloggers.

Here's my 7 facts (warning they might be a little sappy):

1) I frequently fall in love with romance book heroes. I'm an absolute junkie. My biggest crush though has got to be Wrath from Black Dagger Brotherhood, with Z and V coming in at a close second. *swoon* I also adore quite a few contemporary ones too though, especially if I imagine them looking like Chris Hemsworth :D

2) I think I might be better at writing short stories than novels. Though I think being overly critical of myself too early (a first draft is supposed to suck) might be a factor in that...I'm a big chicken at this point, and have terrible self-discipline right now when it comes to making myself sit down and write. I also suffer from too many ideas, and not enough actual writing done ><

3) There are a few authors (maybe a handful) that I've talked with at length, about writing and/or about life and consider them true friends, despite never having met them in person. I also can absolutely not get enough of their work, which has inspired me so much. Miss Tara is one of those people, as are 2 of the people I've nominated at the end of this. Much love!

4) I'm an only child, so really close friends become extended family. For instance, I consider my best friend a sister and her kids my niece and nephew. :-)

5) My aunt went from wild child to parent at the age of 20, then spent 8 years in night school to get her Asso. degree. She went on to get her nursing certification and is now a nurse in a hospital ER. She's my hero and I couldn't be more proud of her. *cue Wind Beneath My Wings* :P

6) The same aunt mentioned above is mom to my cousin, and both having been raised by single moms, we were thrown together a lot. I was a terrible kid to him, and will never truly be able to make up for that, but thankfully he doesn't seem to hold it against me much. This is good because I will forever see him as my kid brother and short of a felony, he can do no wrong in my eyes. <3

7) And finally, I have had many dreams througout my life, but have given up on most of them for one reason or another over the years - stage fright crippled my dreams of singing, lack of patience made it difficult to consider being a teacher, and the list goes on. One that has never disappeared is my desire to be a mother. There was a time I was afraid nature would keep that dream from me, and last year when my 2 year old nephew died I almost passed on the idea of being a mother out of fear. Well, it's finally my turn. I've just entered the second trimester of my pregnancy :D

So now for my nominations... I honestly can not name 15 blogs that inspire me, at least not that haven't already been nominated. So I'll give you those that are near and dear to me and/or have inspired me in some way (give me a break, it's almost half the required number at least!):
1. Jennifer James
2. DaVinci Kittie @ GraveTells
3. Sandra Bunino
4. Taryn @ My Secret Romance Book Reviews
5. Storm Goddess @ Storm Goddess Book Reviews
6. Sexpert Advice
7. Book Twirps

“A bit of a disappointment, I expect.” A rich, deep voice with a twinge of an English accent drifted from behind her.

She whirled around. Her hair whipped against her cheeks and made her wish for the hundredth time today she hadn’t packed all her hair clips.

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you.”

The stranger paused beside the edge of the clearing, and her heart stuttered. Although no one would mistake him for a Hollywood leading man, this guy could command attention by stepping into a room. Or onto an island.

“That’s okay. You didn’t.” She permitted her gaze to wander over him.

He kept his hands stuffed into the front pockets of faded jeans. The wind tore at his gray long-sleeved shirt, outlining the contours of a well-defined chest. Unruly light brown hair touched his collar. High cheekbones accented his deep-set eyes. Not friendly eyes, but no threat lay behind them either, at least none she could uncover.

He pulled a hand from his pocket and held it out. “Aidan Camden of Dawson Tours, your neighbor from across the water.” He tipped his head toward the way he’d come.

Camden. His name sounded familiar, but why? She shook his hand with a hint of hesitation. “Rachel Grant.”

His fingers warmed her skin, his grip strong and confident. Awareness trailed along her arm. Then again, it could be the accent that made her skin tingle. British accents never failed to stir her emotions.

A trace of a smile danced on his lips. “Aye, the American.”

Huh. “You know of me?”

A low rumble of laughter slipped from his mouth, the sound relaxing her from deep within. “Word travels fast here. I saw you paddling your way out.”

Paddling? No, he’d seen her fighting with the oars. Until today, she’d never set foot on a boat, much less held an oar. But she would consider swimming across the Atlantic Ocean if it would make Nan happy.

“Tell me, Mr. Camden, are you in the habit of following foreigners?”

“No, lass, but you’re all the talk of the Roker area. The mighty Grant descendant, come to see about selling the family cottage.”

Selling?

Layla turned and scanned the room, quickly choosing a corner table with a clear view of the entire store, including the counter and the woman tending it.

The dessert was excellent—silky smooth and sweet—and the coffee was, in fact, the best she’d ever had. As she ate, she imagined what her parents would look like sitting at each table, but most of them were occupied, and aside from the stunning clerk, no one could compare to her lovely mom and dad.

Until he walked in.

Layla’s gaze was roaming over the front door when it swung open, revealing a man so gorgeous her breath caught in her chest. Her reaction surprised and embarrassed her, but she couldn’t look away as his tall, bronzed body moved with strength, grace and purpose to the counter.

Instead of entering the queue, he moved behind the bar and began helping the clerk. All Layla could see then was his back, but she didn’t mind. She took her time examining his head, shoulders, torso—and by leaning to the left—his hips, butt and legs. He wore a white t-shirt, brown cargo shorts, and flip-flops. Inappropriate for the weather, but fantastic for the view.

Layla cocked her head to the side, appreciating his relaxed style and fine form. Then her gaze returned to his upper half, quite content to do so. White cotton rippled over muscle as he worked. And his thick hair—the color of which was strikingly similar to a pot of strong coffee held up to the light—shimmered in loose waves, sweeping over the nape of his neck.

REVIEW: The Submission of a Mafia Princess by Sandra Bunino

Recap:

Toni has lived her life in the shadow of her mob boss father and his associates, but meeting Brax changes all that by making her feel alive and free, until they were brutally torn apart. Brax survived the wrath of the mob, but not without scars both physical and emotional. He’s vowed never to let a woman get under his skin again, but what happens when their paths cross once again at The Satin Rose Experience?

Title:  The Submission of a Mafia Princess
Series:  Satin Rose Experience (SRE)
Book #: 3
Author:  Sandra Bunino
Approximate Book Length:  30 Pages
Recommended Reader Age:  18+
Sexual Content:  Moderate

Thoughts:

Who doesn’t love a reunion plot line? Brax and Toni were both very compelling and their story is sad, but oh so heartwarming. There are a few predictable twists, but also some surprises providing that much more enjoyment from the storyline. I adored Jackson’s cameo (from book 2) in this one and how Asher and Mia who started it all are involved in each story as well.

Mostly I appreciated the chemistry between Brax and Toni. She grew up believing certain things about herself, but he made her break free of those preconceptions and feel beautiful and desired. While it was a very sexy read, it was only erotic in certain parts and otherwise pretty sweetly sensual.

Basically, Sandra Bunino does it again with the third installment of her SRE series. I’m not always a fan of mob related storylines, but this one was very well done and it added a danger factor as well as a tragic past to overcome. It made for an exciting read. I’m looking forward to the next one, especially after that ending…

In Conclusion:

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each story in the series so far, but this is definitely among my faves so far. Flashbacks give you backstory and mafia drama gives you suspense when things resume for Toni and Brax. Pick this one up for an awesome read!

BLOG TOUR: Lennon's Jinx by Chris Myers

Thanks to AToMR Tours for hosting this blog tour. I'm promoting Lennon's Jinx by Chris Myers. Happy reading!

*****************************

Sometimes, we don’t get to choose who we fall for…

Lennon spends most of his time raising his little sister Currie while trying to skate through his senior year of high school. He prefers groupies with no-strings attached but finds himself strangely attracted to Jinx, the straight-A student in his choir. Lennon’s curiosity overrules his good sense as he tries to peel away the layers to discover the reason for Jinx’s skittishness.

Jinx conceals the black truth about herself from her friends. She won’t admit to them that she screwed up big time, losing her first love and what she once held most precious.

When Lennon’s band holds auditions to replace their keyboard player, Jinx comes to tryout and almost leaves after seeing Lennon. Despite the fact she despises him, she joins the band to nurture her love of music that will hopefully ease the guilt gnawing away at her.

Like the rest of his band mates, Jinx soon witnesses Lennon battling his infamous father. While confronting his pent-up anger at his dad, Lennon exposes vulnerabilities he had no intention of letting any girl ever see, especially Jinx. Their reckless pasts may bring them together or further complicate their already messy lives.

Gabby fishes out the thick silver chain from underneath my shirt. The heavy, steel key at the end catches her interest. The small, brass skeleton key hides behind it. “Is this the key to your heart?”

“If I tell you what it’s for, I’d have to kill you,” I say, grinning. If I told her the truth, I’d be expelled from school.

She tongues the steel key, torturing me.

“I love secrets,” she says.

“Good, because I’m awesome at keeping them.” Other than my band mates, no one knows about that key, not even Currie.

Gabby finds the brass one. “Two. Very interesting. What’s this one?”

“It’s nothing,” I say, putting them back. That key is nobody’s business, except mine. Gabby nudges me. “Touchy. Aren’t you?”

I just smile at her. She has no idea.

About the Author
Chris Myers suffers from an overactive imagination. In second grade, Sister Bernice produced Chris's first play about pumpkins mauling and eating children. Apparently, the nuns didn’t catch the underlying meaning. This instantly raised Chris to stardom amongst her peers for the several days off from schoolwork while in production. She spent her high school years writing torch songs for fantasy guys then moved onto writing thrillers and young adult. Chris lives in Colorado with her daughter, her better half, and BeBe, a rambunctious Bichon.

Chris literally has very few photos of herself, even though photography put her through college. Here she is with her sisters and daughter. Chris is the one with the vino.

Chris started out as an art major, then moved to bio-chem, hoping to play Victor Frankenstein as a genetic engineer or messing with people's minds as a psychiatrist. Just as she was about to graduate, she decided being broke for another four to ten years wouldn't work out for her adventurous spirit and traveling. She ended up with an electrical engineering degree then a masters. As it turns out, she should've finished her first novel twenty-five years ago and stuck in the make-believe world where she is happiest.
